I sent this feedback to the General Manager but have not had a response and it’s now been a month. We left CG with a general feeling of disappointment- it has lost some of its magic. It feels like CG has expanded it’s offering but the experience and service has been watered down. Whilst some staff remained exceptional, service and attention to detail was not consistent. Check-in: Not very welcoming, lack of staff. There was no one at the door (outside and inside). The lady that checked us in tried to do so whilst trying to resolve a different issue on the walkie-talkie. She didn’t appear warm and happy- more a little disgruntled and stressed. We had pulled up by the front door, we had to request if someone could move our car into the carpark. Our biggest disappointment was, The Dining Room. It used to be such a special experience, with outstanding food and attentive, knowledgeable staff. Some staff seemed less experienced, we had different servers, and one was confused when we tried to order a glass of wine as it wasn’t his job. The atmosphere was lost due to an iPad on full volume. We really enjoyed, The Kitchen. On the first night, the server was brilliant and made a huge, positive impact on our experience. The second time we went it was the opposite. Despite having 6 members of staff looking out to the tables, it seemed a challenge to get any service. Lots of the younger servers seemed to be furiously tapping on the computer. Unfortunate, my Mother- in-Law sent us a bunch of flowers to celebrate our wedding anniversary (we got married at CG). Despite being delivered to the hotel we never saw them. It was only a week later when my Mother- in- Law mentioned, we realised what had happened. There has been no real resolution to this.

It's not often I'm afforded the five star experience but when I am, it really needs to be five stars. Everything was correct, but in the morning my client asked me to get a table by the window. The waiter showed me to the perfect table... and then gave it away while I got breakfast (I had mentioned my colleague was arriving imminently). I said nothing so as not to embarrass the couple sitting at our table. But that was my overriding memory. There were plenty of other tables, why give mine away?

Afternoon tea is one of my favourite things to do and I have sampled some amazing ones all around the world. I can honestly say that this is one of the best ones I have ever had. The staff made the experience really special and the scones were amazing! We weren’t rushed which considering there was more chatting than eating was appreciated. I also like the fact that the remaining cakes were boxed up for us meaning that the treat lasts a little longer. A lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon.

This is a lovely hotel, with nice staff, a great setting and very good food and drink. The only thing that let it down (albeit only a little) was the service at breakfast, which was a bit haphazard. This is far from being a deal breaker however. Overall excellent

Celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday. What a wonderful experience and enjoyed by all. Warm welcome and birthday wishes from all staff. Atmosphere relaxed and not rushed at all. Our waiter Joel was what helped our experience be so perfect as all your staff. We had some dietary requirements which the chefs happily sorted alternatives. Sandwiches with BUTTER and selection of different breads/fillings yum yum, the sweet/scone selection was delicious and very moorish. Endless pots of tea. Thank you to everyone definitely our kind of wonderland

We booked one of the suites with the hot tub. While it was a luxurious experience, the bathrooms needed a bit of renovation and care. You could still hear neighbours and staff cleaning rooms next door, which is annoying if you want to have a nap. Lovely surroundings. Main restaurant ok-ish. I wished they didn’t put so much sugar in all the dishes. Only the dover sole escaped the sugar and was delicious. I think the place is overpriced for the comfort and service, like a lot of places in UK. If you like old things and the smells that come with that, you will like it.

The hotel is amazing, that cannot be contested….the grounds immaculately attended to, lots of lovely country walks and plenty to see within the estate. That itself is worthy of the ratings it consistently receives….now my disappoint was the afternoon tea experience. To pay £45 per person is somewhat a luxury spend and I would not consider the quality and service myself and my guest received to be close to any 5 star standard…it was extremely below par and not matched up with the stunning ambience the hotel portrays. Upon being sat down, we waited a while before we were served, no explanation of the menu, no tea offering or order taken….whats the point in having a champagne glass on the table if there isn’t the suggestion that the guest might like a glass? Surely a missed sales opportunity! We were not even offered a hot beverage until the main course was brought out! Strange! Everything seemed rushed, we were finally offered the tea and extra sandwich offerings….i have to say that the scones were delicious once we finished we were given the bill….we hadn’t even asked for it! From then on we did not feel welcome…our reservation was booked for 4 with a decent allotment of time to enjoy the experience…we were out in an hour an 20 minutes….unfortunately I asked for the service charge to be removed on this occasion, something that is very rare for me to do, but with a rushed service, having to ask for clean plates, no hot beverage order taken united with the cushions being brought in from outside, the team waiting to clean up and go home hence being given the bill….it just wasn’t worth the service fee nor the actual charge for the afternoon tea….just a bit of a disappointment. Just over 100 pounds for an hours experience…,.very sad indeed.
