Beautiful hotel. Only set-back is that noise appears to travel somewhat, such that I could often hear footsteps in my room.

Although there was building work on one side and road works on the other, it did not ruin this well designed hotel. Samuel was great checking us in and provided us with exceptional information in perfect English. In fact, all the staff were excellent. The room was very spacious and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept on. The shower was incredible and coupled with the bed, was difficult to leave the room. The room had some fantastic little finishes, we were still finding some on our last day. The secure lock on the door was a good addition and is the little click button above the lock. A good security feature for single travellers Loved the sweets and the refreshing water in the hotel reception area as well as the check out chocolate. We spent every early evening on the roof terrace watching the world go by in the square and strangely enough, mesmerised by the crane work. Great location but a shame the breakfast was not in the room rate as it is quite expensive per night. However, you do get freebies in the fridge and is replenished every day.

Achtung aktuell grosse Baustelle um das Hotel. Ansonsten sehr zu empfehlen. Das Personal ist nett, die Lage grundsätzlich gut, aber ziemlich laut (Ohropax fragen oder mitnehmen). Das Bett war sehr bequem und die Zimmer sind schön eingerichtet.

Très bel établissement et très belle chambre donnant sur la Place. Chambre très bien, bien équipée, machine à café et tout confort. Un emplacement très pratique. réception très sympathique. Seule critique, aucune chaine TV en français... étonnant pour une ville "tri-lingue" !

We stayed here for a 3-night Easter break. The hotel is beautiful, with Art Deco-style decor. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a great shower. I loved all the little luxuries like the Molton Brown toiletries, the free mini bar, restocked daily (water, soft drinks and snacks) and the water and Easter treats in the foyer. The breakfast was good, with plenty of choice and hot food cooked to order. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant one night, which was also excellent. Book ahead if you want to have dinner as it's very popular. The finishing touch was a gift of a bar of chocolate when we checked out. I would recommend Hotel Marthof for anyone would like a bit of luxury in the centre of Basel. Absolutely perfect.

An excellent hotel and location with a boutique style and fantastic rooms. The breakfast includes Cava, freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries and breads, scrambled egg, smoked salmon and bacon (amongst other things). You can have eggs, porridge and bacon made to order (if you can flag down a server). The 'minibar' included in the room is more mini fridge, as it only includes soft drinks, crisps and a toblerone. An excellent inclusion but certainly not a bar. The air-conditioning is limited by local law, with the room maintaining a warm temperature unless a window is opened - However the trams running limit this use to sleeping hours without interruption. The hotel did provide a fan to help. The front desk staff were all very friendly and always quickly resolved any request. We had a great stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
