The hotel is located a short distance from the M40 Motorway within easy travelling distance of Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and very handy for Windsor. It is signposted as you approach and there is ample complimentary parking. The grounds are substantial and are attractively landscaped with the hotel building being impressive. Ahead of my visit I reached out to General Manager, Chris Falcus, to request an early check in if possible as I was arriving into Gatwick on an overnight flight from the West Indies and would be tired. He wrote back to me in a friendly manner and advised that he had added a note to my file on a “best endeavours” basis. I understood and appreciated this. As you enter the lobby area it is hard not to notice you are being greeted by a unique fragrance which is not a common feature in IHG hotels. This has an almost automatic relaxing effect on a person. The hotel has immense potential however I was particularly disappointed that my IHG 1 status went unrecognised in spite of me presenting my Platinum membership card as ID. I was not impressed that I had not been given the expected status room upgrade. I identified myself to the lady checking me in, who advised that there were no suites available. I knew this to be incorrect as I checked online from the car park. This reviewer’s approach is to book a room one level below my preference and allow my status to take care of the rest. I do fully appreciate that any room upgrade is subject to availability. I pointed out that I believed suites to be available and asked her to check again. She referred to her manager and came back and confirmed back that there was indeed a suite available for me. I expect IHG to take better care of its more valuable guests. The receptionist was very friendly and made effort to build a rapport with me and to be positive. I was given my room details and the lifts were pointed out, as was the timing and location of breakfast. I was offered a late check out and this was appreciated, though it wasn’t needed. The hotel no longer benefits from an Executive Lounge. The suite itself (341) was spacious and all areas were exceptionally clean, even the out of reach places. The main door opened into a small sitting room with adjoining bedroom to one side and bathroom to the other. The bathroom was well proportioned and had a standalone shower in addition to a deep soaking tub. There was ample quality towels and soft bathrobes were provided. The rooms were quite attractive though possibly rather generically furnished. There was a small refrigerator in the room and this was stocked with one soft drink, one beer, one small bottle of wine and a single grain bar. Two bottles of water were available in the room and a hospitality tray with hot drinks and biscuits. I felt this was perhaps over described on the website as “the room has a fully stocked mini bar”. Ahead of my visit I made Mr Falcus aware that part of my stay was to re-evaluate the hotel for
