My husband and I stayed here one night to break up a long drive on 95 and it was lovely! Beautiful old inn so rooms have lots of character. Large porches on both the second and third floors were great for pre-dinner drinks and post-dinner stargazing. Breakfast the next morning was served on the front porch - best biscuits and grits I’ve had in a long time! Our only minor complaints were soft beds (we both prefer a harder mattress), lumpy pillows (again, maybe personal preference?) and there was a strong smell of floral cleaning fluid (fabuloso?) in the room. We tried to open the windows to air the room out but like lots of old houses, they were painted shut. Minor negatives though - we would stay here again! Cookies at turndown are a nice touch.

Wow, where do I start? We stayed at The Anchorage for 4 nights and LOVED it!! So many wonderful aspects to this very special historical inn, and all the thoughtful extras that add up to an amazingly fun and relaxing place... all because the owners (Amy and Frank) and staff want you to have the. best. time. Being offered a glass of Prosecco during check-in kicks off a string of special touches such as: A parking pass that allows you to park all around the inn An elevator to help with all that luggage En-suite bedrooms that are lovely and have AC as well as ample hot water Relaxing sitting areas with amazing views of the waterfront on the roof-top patio, covered patio and parlor Sumptuous homemade breakfasts on the veranda overlooking the wharf and beautiful dining room Turn-down service with delicious homemade cookies and a carafe of lemon water Oh-so comfy beds and pillows -- you will have some of the best nights sleep you’ve had in a long time! Great area recommendations for restaurants, activities, boat tours, shopping, etc. Book at least 1 dinner here at the RSC (Ribaut Social Club). The food is fabulous as is the vibe And if you get a chance to chat with Amy, Frank, Joanna or any of the other amazing staff, you’ll understand why The Anchorage has so many repeat guests who are thrilled to be back. With their warm and heartfelt hospitality spilling over, they are wonderful at making you feel right at home!

The inn was extremely clean and comfortable. Breakfast each morning on the front porch was fabulous. We had dinner there our first night and it was excellent. Service and staff are friendly and top notch. Fresh cookies and turn down service provided daily was an added treat! Highly recommend!!!

Lovely B&B in a great location. We had a room on the 3rd floor giving access to a balcony with river views, a great place to sip a glass of wine. Breakfast was 1st class and served on the veranda. A useful feature was the lift that runs from the lower ground floor to all the upper floors, we had a pile of luggage so we gratefull.

I appreciate the Anchorage is an older home which is exhibited with a beautiful grand staircase. The location is convenient for walking to the shops and eateries. The view of the water from the porches adds to its charm. However I thought the home was lacking attention. The entrance was not inviting, the concert steps need repair and the flower containers were boring with a small group of struggling pansies. The back yard gathering area with fire pit was totally uninviting with clutter and dirty chairs. As for the rooms, the beds were great. I think a small touch like a few flowers in a vase would add to the charm instead of plastic drink cups and a container of Lysol wipes.on the dresser. The flacking of the ceiling paint over the reception area was not a good look. We did not have dinner at the Inn but did have breakfast and I thought it was very good. The experience felt like a bed in a house instead of room in an Inn

I have stayed in all kinds of hotels all over the world and I have to say that our visit to Anchorage 1770 last month was the worst experience I’ve ever had in many decades of travel. Except for the incredibly comfortable beds and the great view (and a nice breakfast), I have almost nothing good to say. The Inn is tired and dirty, the staff too young and incompetent and the owners downright rude. This place is neglected. I’ve chosen just a few of our experiences to highlight, although there were more. (1) We booked four rooms for two nights at the Inn for a special occasion. We arrived at the hotel and there were dead plants gracing the front steps. The lobby is dark and unattractive. Once we checked in, we realized that the A/C in our room was not working — the thermostat was dangling by its wires. It was a very warm and humid day. We notified the front desk three times over the next four hours and finally, as we were getting ready to go to dinner, someone who worked in the restaurant came up and “you tubed” (without success) how to fix AC thermostats. We went to dinner and while there received two phone calls from the owner of the Inn. In the first call, she told us that the A/C had problems in the past and she would re-book us at another hotel in town as the Inn was full. That was a no-go as we had four rooms booked for our entire family. The second call from the owner (again while we were at dinner) was more of the same. We then instructed her to call in an HVAC professional to fix it. Six hours after we checked in, it was working. (2) On day two, a gentleman entered our daughter’s room using a room key the front desk staff had given him when he checked-in (he was toting luggage). This was hard to fathom as there are only 14 rooms at the Inn. (3) During our last day, I happen to look under the very high four-poster bed in our room (#403). The carpeting had almost one inch of dirt, dust and debris under it. Not hard to see given the height of the bed. When we checked out, Amy the owner was there and presented my husband with the bill. He asked about some “accommodation” relating to our first night’s A/C saga. (As noted, we had four rooms for two nights.) Her response was “Well, you had air conditioning.” Overall, the conditions at Anchorage 1770 are very poor. The place looks nothing like the photographs on its website. Tired, dingy and apparently not very cared for. If you chose to stay here, don’t say you weren’t forewarned.

The property is beautiful. It reflects a different time. That’s part of the problem. They do not have anybody on the property after 8 o’clock. They require quiet after 9 o’clock. They lock the doors. You have to use a keypad to get in and it’s dark in the back and you can’t see it. The beds are divine but we’re so tall we couldn’t get in them, and there was only one little stepstool. Air-conditioning and heating didn’t work. There were very few towels. They were great towels, but not a lot. They had no coffee maker in the room. One of the reasons we chose the place was that we wanted to eat there and have a restaurant on site. They serve breakfast but not lunch and it is prescribed time unlike a regular restaurant. But for the days we were there, they had no evening meal. And we were told that we probably would not have been able to get in because reservations were required. One bright spot is that they have an elevator. We got a first floor room, but it didn’t say that the first floor is actually on the third floor. It is just the first floor that they have rooms on. But it is listed as a first floor room. The staff that was there was friendly. But it was only one woman, and she was quite young. The waitress in the morning was the only one that really seem to care about giving us information.

Amy and her staff are FANTASTIC! We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in and it didn't stop. The Anchorage 1770 has so much to offer and is so much fun that we found ourselves planning our time to get back to the hotel for breakfast, the bikes, sunsets on the porch with drinks and just enjoying the views. Thank you for an amazing stay in Beaufort.

Amy and Frank have done a beautiful job with Anchorage 1770 Inn. Very comfortable with beautiful bed and bathrooms without losing the gorgeous original architecture. So pleasant to arrive and have Prosecco on the top deck then delicious breakfast the next morning. Amy and Frank are amazing hosts! We will be back!
