Wonderful friendly service, we went in for dinner & the lamb shanks meal was delicious, the meat fell off the bone… The drinks were fairly priced. The lady who served us in the restaurant was very kind and helped us to order a taxi to our campsite… When it never arrived, her and her husband kindly offered to drive us back as it was very late. Didnt even want any money for it. Above & beyond on customer service. Very grateful, would recommend.

There are some terrible reviews of The Royal Goat on this site, and I was very nervous about staying. The hotel is now in new ownership and has just reopened (12th April 24) after an ongoing refurbishment. It isn't perfect yet by any means (this is currently reflected in the price!); but for a Victorian Hotel, the rooms were clean and decor good, the beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms were in good condition with great showers (hot, powerful), the breakfast was everything we needed and the evening meal (only sampled the curries) was brilliant. The staff were very attentive and couldn't do more. So there are still some quirks to iron out (no hand towel in the public bar loo, the windows do let a little more air in than you'd expect - but they are original sash, and there's no pump beers.....yet, they are working on it!), but it was a very pleasant stay with none of the horrors described in previous reviews experienced. Warning - the hotel doesn't have a drying room for outdoor kit if you experience weather like we did...so we did our best with radiators and heated towel rails (all of which worked fine).

1) There was no fire escape information in the room and I didn’t get any reply when I asked for this, the doors are flimsy with gaps underneath and the room wasn’t easy to navigate to, so I wasn’t at all comfortable with that, given my room was three staircases up. 2) The room had a nest of False Widow spiders on the inside of the window. I killed 4 of them before deciding I was too afraid to stay in the room. I literally left the room at 9pm by myself and walked outside in the dark and pouring rain as the hotel were not able to address my concerns. They told me they would refund me but two days later they changed their mind, so now I paid for this room and again for the new hotel that I eventually found after wondering the streets trying to find somewhere that was open (there is no phone signal in the whole village so I’m sure you can imagine how frightening this was for a single woman).

The hotel staff were welcoming, and our room was comfortable and spacious. The room had a kettle with tea/coffee/hot choc and the bathroom had a good supply of toiletries. Bed and pillows were comfortable. All of the staff were welcoming. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel both days, and can't fault the food. I am coeliac and was happy surprised at how well they were able to cater for my dietary requirements, even fish and chips were gf, and bread was available if I requested it. A good selection of cold food at breakfast, the first morning we didn't realise there was a cooked breakfast menu to come a little later so made sure to save room for a cooked breakfast the following morning. Easy to walk around the village from the hotel. There is a car park for the hotel, and bus stop across the road. Perfect place to stay for doing the Watkin Path on Snowdon.

Room was dated but really comfy bed, it was clean and shower/bath was good. Breakfast was lovely but you do have to ask the staff for a menu for the hot food they don’t offer one. Juice and continental breakfast also nice whilst you wait for food. We had no issues with parking.

We were really excited for this holiday, but upon arrival, we were greeted with an odour of dampness and mouldiness as well as lots of dead bugs and no staff about. After getting the key and being told where our room was, we put our bags in and went straight out due to needing dinner. That night when we spent time in the room, we found lots of cobwebs and dirt all across the bathroom floor. There was mold all along the bath, in patches on the wall, and damp patches on the floor under the sink and toilet. The bathroom had many areas of flooding and cracked tiles and holes. There were damp patches on the windowsill in the bedroom too. When we went to take a shower, we found a red stain (resembled blood) on one of the white towels and had to use our own towels for the duration of our stay. For our holiday we planned to climb Snowdon so didn't spend any more time in the hotel other than to sleep, and wanted to discuss this at the end of our visit. When we left early in the morning to climb, the door was left wide open all night long, with no staff around and so we felt very unsafe. On our final evening, we went around the village and heard many bad things about the hotel from locals which was very off-putting. Upon checking Trip Advisor for the hotel, we found many people who had the same terrible experience recently. We also found out a few weeks before our stay there was a hygiene rating of 1 and currently a hygiene rating of 4 which was not as advertised. The bed and breakfast which was advertised to be between 8 and 10am, actually closed at 9am but wasn't updated in any room or hotel information. This meant we missed breakfast. When speaking to the manager, she said they couldn't afford the chef for an extra hour to feed one guest, as apparently the week is too quiet for breakfast to be open that long. This was not our fault that it was quiet and it was not what we paid for and was not as advertised. We were told our option was to have cereal for breakfast and the manager's comment was that we would not find breakfast anywhere else. After the uncleanliness and unpleasant experience, we did not want to stay a minute longer and checked out early. Avoid at all costs.

We stayed for 3 nights in Septmber 2023. The initial impression when checking in was that the decoration was a bit tired and the place smelt a tad musty. The room I stayed in was comfortable, but the wallpaper was grubby and the skirting boards looked lime thay hadn't been cleaned in months. Mercifully the shower room was clean and the shower itself was fine. The breakfast options were good however some of the items were clearly from the budget end of the scale. The sausages were undercooked, the hash browns and the bacon were very salty and the scambled egg was poor.. (Poached & fried were OK) Overall, the place needs a thorough clean,a general overhaul of the property and cleaning/servicing regimes.

The welcome from Manasa and the staff of the hotel was very warm and friendly and throughout our stay we were well looked after. We had honeymooned at The Royal Goat fifty years earlier and received an anniversary card from Manasa and the staff which was a nice touch. The fabric of the building had deteriorated since we were last there to the extent that half the hotel was closed awaiting refurbishment. I have no doubt that the future will see it restored to splendour. Our de-luxe room was very spacious with double aspect and a supremely comfortable bed. I am tempted to return at a later date to see how the refurbishments have been carried out.
