So, I stayed at the Dongsi Hotel, and the location near Wangfujing is seriously perfect for hitting the sights in Beijing. I’m giving it a strong 4 out of 5 stars, and honestly, that score is all thanks to the amazing people working there, because the room itself was a totally different story. Seriously, the staff were rockstars. They were warm, super helpful, and quick with everything I needed. They gave great local tips, helped out with my luggage, and just made me feel welcome every time I walked by. They are definitely the best thing about this place, and they worked hard to make up for the room's issues. The room, though? Big letdown. It felt genuinely old and tired, and maintenance is clearly overdue. The biggest problem was this gross, musty smell that just hung around all day, no matter how much I tried to air the place out. It made relaxing tough. Worse, there was a section of the wall that had obvious water stains and visible dampness—it looked like it was starting to leak, which is a major worry. Everything felt old, from the furniture to the general wear, and it’s clear these rooms need a total overhaul. Basically, the Dongsi Hotel is a mixed bag. The location is killer and the staff deserve all the praise. If you just need a place to crash and really value great service over having a pristine room, you’ll probably be fine. Just be ready for the older look, the chronic damp smell, and maybe checking the walls for spots. Fix those infrastructure issues, and this place would easily be five stars.
