Beijing Hotel NUO-Wangfujing Reviews

Stay for the history, not the service. The hotel has a unique history and is in an excellent location for sightseeing and shopping. First opened in 1917 with an eclectic modern European style as the Grand Hôtel de Pékin, the hotel was once the largest and best-equipped in Beijing. It has accommodated illustrious writers such as Rudyard Kipling, Noël Coward, and George Bernard Shaw, as well as royals like Princess Anne and Prince Albert of Monaco. It was also where Chairman Mao Zedong celebrated the inauguration of the People's Republic of China in 1949. For the most part, the service is poor, so go with low expectations. The pool is severely dated and unpleasant. The room was dated but reasonably spacious and comfortable. The Writer’s Bar was a highlight and has an extensive cocktail menu. However, be warned that the kitchen closes at 8:30 PM, so unfortunately, we missed out on dining in.

Great location! Beijing Nuo is connected to Beijing Hotel. I am actually not sure which part is newer. Right on the corner of Wangfujing and ChangAn road. We were able to walk to Tian A Men and the palace. The rooms are great size and very clean. We also received a bowl of fruit on arrival. Lots of complimentary bottled water. There seems for very few plugs and we kept getting two sets of towels for three people despite asking for more. The pool is highly regulated and seems to be run by another company. We had to purchase swim caps which I was told is the norm in China. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Beijing Nuo.

One issue was that as weather was unstable in April, some days being hot, hotel had this cold air conditioning turned off until May. Therefore on those hot days, we were unable to bring down the room temperature, it went as high as 27 degrees. Hotel provided a fan but still not a very good experience as ventilation wasn’t good and fan was noisy. Other than that, staffs were friendly, room was nice and clean, the aesthetics were really pretty, had a variety for breakfast. Location was convenient as well, steps away from the metro, we upgraded to the view with Changan street.

It is an old hotel but the hotel is located at a strategic place. It is close to the palace museum. The room service is good.

Very nice hotel with long history! It's always a pleasure to stay in such buildings. The reception and concierge service are very friendly and professional, speaking English fluently. Very unique atmosphere inside, worth experimenting!

When checking in, the front desk staff specially changed our room to one facing Chang'an Avenue. The location of the hotel is great. Turn the corner to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street and walk a few steps to the subway station. The hotel is a bit old, and the facilities are a bit old, but it is very clean. The cleaning lady on the fourth floor is very nice. She comes to clean several times a day and gives us a lot of mineral water. She said that because the tap water was not very clean after the pipes were changed some time ago, we should drink mineral water. The waiters in the whole hotel are polite, and there are many shops around, so takeout is very convenient.

This hotel is great, very convenient to Wangfujing and Tiananmen Square. More importantly, the service is great. The manager Gavin makes us feel at home. He explained the hotel to us very carefully and arranged a series of services for us and foreign guests. Lucky and Jerry also took the trouble to adjust the invoice header for us, which is great!!!

The hotel is very historic and tasteful. The front desk staff is very nice, warm and generous, and introduced the hotel's features. In fact, I just stayed there two days before my stay, and I stayed there twice in three days, which proves that I like it. It would be even more perfect if breakfast and drinks in the small refrigerator were provided.
