The Merchant is an excellent hotel where guests are truly treated as guests, and the level of service is first class. From check‑in to check‑out, everything was perfect. The food is more than excellent, and special occasions are clearly taken seriously. This was our first hotel stay where such thoughtful details were provided — a note left in the room with the next day’s weather forecast and a quote of the day, which was a lovely touch. Pyjamas were laid out for the evening, and there was also a very nice birthday surprise waiting for us at the end of the day. Breakfast was plentiful and exquisite, and the coffee was among the best we’ve had. We stayed in a Victorian room, and everything about it was perfect. There was absolutely nothing to fault. The only downside was building work opposite the hotel, with some noise starting early in the morning. However, this was thoughtfully addressed, as earplugs were provided in the room. Overall, a truly outstanding hotel experience — one we will definitely remember and highly recommend.

We had a voucher and made a last minute booking for the Merchant on Easter Tuesday. So glad we did! We booked on the Hotel website and got a deal that included breakfast & a bottle of prosecco. We had booked a Victorian room but were upgraded to the Larkin Suite on arrival. Such a treat, thanks to the lovely receptionist! The prosecco was on ice waiting for us, and the room was stunning and spotless. The suites are in a nice quiet part of the hotel. There was live jazz & blues music in Berts Bar in the evening which was great. Not usually our style, but was lovely to chill and listen to something different with a cocktail. Breakfast is not a buffet style like most hotels, but was lovely, in the Great Room. This hotel is just stunning and all staff we came across were superb. We hope to return soon!

One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. The building & decor is stunning, Victorian Deluxe bedroom was absolutely gorgeous. The service was superb from the moment we arrived until we left. We stayed two days and could have spent the whole time just in the merchant. Afternoon tea & cocktails were exquisite and the rooftop hottub & hydrotherapy session in the spa really refreshed us on day two. Could not recommend highly enough - we'll be returning frequently!

A really beautiful hotel set in the heart of Belfast. You are given the choice of Victorian style or Art Deco style and we opted for the Victorian as it is certainly more to our taste. On arrival, the concierge was very helpful, we arrived at 8.30am and they advised that our room was already ready for us. The bedroom was Stunning. When they turned down our room that evening they gave my husband a balloon and box of chocolates for his birthday. The jazz bar was very nice, really good service and delicious food. The breakfast room was so beautifully decorated. We didn’t dine in the evening in this room but really enjoyed our breakfast here. The Cloth Ear , also a very nice bar and food. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. We didn’t use the spa facilities so cannot comment on this.

Celebrated my two adult sons birthdays last weekend in the Merchant hotel Belfast. Fabulous delux large art deco rooms. Excellent house keeping and turndown service. We were rooms 230 and 299 and 430......thank you for excellent house keeping. The breakfast were amazing. We particularly enjoyed the large private spacious tables within the gracious grand dining hall . The front bar is classy with a super fireplace and a real log fire which is constantly lighting. Lovely atmosphere. The Berts Jazz bar features excellent live jazz music ( a little loud) and the food was delicious especially the caramelised toffee baked Alaska !! The mussels were plentiful but nothing special . The sea bass was very tasty and the beef bourginon won the day. The STAFF ARE AMAZING. They are so welcoming and very helpful with a little issue I had. The service and upkeep and cleanliness 100% top top class. The valet parking is expensive at 39 sterling a night. The view from the roof top jacuzzi and gym was particularly nice as the hotel has a great location opposite Victoria shopping centre and The Albert memorial clock and a good 360 view of inner Belfast. We were blessed with SUNNY SUNNY WEATHER... The rooftop STAFF were exceptional as well organising times and towels as it was a busy weekend. Despite the hotel being busy , you felt very well looked after and with personal attention. The manager left birthday cards, balloons and chocolates in my boys bedrooms ...very nice touch. The jazz bar also had a wee cake and 2 candles.. It was a nice gesture. It's my 7 th or maybe 8th time here over the last 12 years.. It's a long tiring drive from Galway ..but worth it . Lots of activities within walking distance...Titanic, Crumlin gaol, Black Taxi tour ride, shopping centre and LOTS OF great BARS and good restaurants. We took the train from Galway to Heuston , followed by Train from Connolly Dublin to Grand Central Belfast. The hotel is a 5 mins Uber / taxi or a 15 mins pleasant walk. I will be back again With my sisters in 2 weeks time after Easter... and I look forward to it. Maybe I might even meet the manager !!

We got married back in the hotel back in December 2025 and I couldn't be happier with the wedding experience we had. We wanted somewhere in the city that could offer us an intimate dinner setting after a city hall ceremony, I didn't actually know much about The Merchant's offering at that stage, so I got in touch. We were quickly contacted by our wedding planner Claire W, who explained everything to us and what our options were. Claire invited us down to the hotel to see the set-up and run us through a few ideas. I must say, Claire was a major part of our wonderful experience getting married at the hotel. She is incredible at her job and offered a lot of advice and suggestions to help our day run smoothly. She is an absolute gem in the event team! In the run up to the wedding, we had 0 stress about how things were going to go, because again Claire made sure everything was sorted for us. Arranging drop offs for cake/signage was a breeze and the hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. On our actual day, everything was PERFECT. Clare made sure we got all the photo opportunities we wanted in and outside of the hotel and the warm welcome of guests and staff when we arrived was so lovely. We also have a special mention for Shea, oh my goodness he was the best craic on our day. Anything anyone asked for, he got it sorted immediately and nothing was too big of an ask. It was so nice to have such a friendly face with us throughout the tea/coffee arrival snacks and dinner portion of the evening. My younger sister is also an incredibly fussy eater, and the team were more than accommodating with her request of a Christmas chip that was not on our dinner menu, but the bar menu (the nicest she's ever had apparently) on the day. A note just to say a massive thank you to Claire and Shea, we couldn't be more grateful to have had you assigned to us on our special day. Getting married in The Merchant was the best decision for us and we couldn't recommend it enough to those wanting to get married in the hotel.

Had a lovely two nights here. Victorian bedroom was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the bed being turned down at night and a tray with slippers, chocolate, a card to say what the weather forecast was for the next day. Staff were very friendly and approachable.

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner last Satuday evening in The Great Room. The service, food and atmosphere was excellent - perfect venue to get away from the hustle and bustle of Belfast on a Saturday evening. Thanks to all the staff for making it such a lovely experience for us both. Lamb and petit fours highly recommended. We plan to visit again.
