Cycling from Newcastle to Edinburgh this was our second stop on route and I was tired, sore and hungry on arrival. The hotel is in a great location, (despite the 17:1 hill climb up from the old A1,) in the middle of the village. We had a hot bath and relaxed in a bright clean room. I had raised concern as all the rooms as per friendly and I did want a pet free room as I have asthma brought on by contact with animals. Often I have problems staying in places that allow pets. However the room had been thoroughly cleaned and I had no issues . The hotel is old and could do with some TLC, however the staff are lovely, welcoming and this along with the building's charm make it a lovely place to stay. We did enjoyed a hearty delicious meal in the restaurant too. Thank you.
