My family and I recently stayed at Shaka Caye and we cannot wait to return. In fact, we wanted to take this opportunity to say "thank you" and express our gratitude to the amazing staff for such a wonderful stay. You made us feel like family and we are truly grateful for the time we got to spend with you and the memories you helped us make. We loved how Edwin and Raddy greeted us with warm smiles for each of our meals. They provided very friendly service. The food was fantastic! The bartender, Percy, was awesome. He kept the drinks flowing and the conversation going. We thoroughly enjoyed his craft cocktails and we appreciated how he introduced us to new things. Veronica was also amazing! She was extremely helpful and even played games with our son while my wife and I watched the sunset. Andres got us to and from the airport and island safely and we enjoyed the time we spent with him on the boat. John helped us get to and from the airport safely and promptly. And Lily and her crew kept our room clean and comfortable, it felt like home away from home. We really appreciated the entire staff and their dedication to us during our stay. We hope to see you in the future and cannot wait to return. ❤️

There were only 6 other guests on the island and they ran out of caffeinated coffee. Also there was a lady there that was vegetarian she let them know ahead of time and there meals that they didn't have anything vegetarian. They knew how many guests were coming. For the amount of money no excuse. They charged my card twice for an excursion. When checking out they gave us a receipt with a zero balance. When we got home they email saying we owed our deposit which we paid and provided receipts including the receipt from them at checkout showing zero balance. They are now threatening to turn us over to collections! Will NEVER stay there again!!!

As others have mentioned, Shaka Caye is not as advertised. The positive reviews must be fake! From the moment we arrived to the day we left, the overall experience was the worst we've ever experienced. My husband wanted to leave after the second day, but we unfortunately stayed the entire week hoping things would get better but they did not. The food was simply awful. I don't know where these other reviewers ate, but there was no seafood or shrimp. Just salty meat and a lot of starches. The eggs in the morning were cold and the toast wasn't even toasted! The bar is just a small counter with dirty glasses and extremely cheap and disgusting alcohol. We had one drink and that was enough! Unfortunately there are no other beverages besides water, so we spend the week drinking tap water. Yuck! One staff member mentioned that the new owners haven't visited, and it shows. There place is a mess, worn down buildings, trash along the island and the when it got warm there was a definite smell of garbage. So gross! Where does all the money go that guests pay for staying? The staff also fails to mention the various hidden charges for going to/from the mainland. A round-trip boat ride is going to cost you upwards of $150. My husband was furious when he found out during the checkout! Please, please, please find another place to stay and read the negative reviews carefully. They're accurate unfortunately :(

This resort is nowhere near as advertised. I’ve travelled to plenty of all inclusive resorts and I can easily tell that this is not even close to that. When I originally booked, they were kind enough to give me a small discount as I felt that the prices listed were outside of my budget. The small discount that was offered was still overpriced for our overall experience. They advertise a welcome drink - it was warm and had no alcohol. You’re stranded on the island with nothing to do all day and it costs $150 to go anywhere else. They told me this cost would be split between boat passengers but when we checked out, they charged me and my boyfriend the full $150. They advertised that there was a shop at the island to buy sunscreen and bug spray and there was not one. The kayaks and paddle boards were old. There was sea****/grass growing all around the island making it virtually impossible to swim. Half of the cabana is not air conditioned and the other half that is, I was told, there was no key to lock my belongings up. I later found one in the room… The snacks in the mini fridge were expired and the fridge did not keep anything cold. The island bar was uncomfortable to sit at as the wooden high top chairs did not have any cushion. The bar drinks were watered down/not really alcoholic. The staff is cordial and friendly but it seemed that most of them did not want to *actually* attend to us. I’m also concerned about their living conditions as they all seem to stay in one cabana, which like another reviewer mentioned is inhumane. They tacked on a free snorkeling trip with my stay, which was kind but I had to remind them of it when I arrived because they tried to charge me. During the snorkeling, the equipment was old and dirty and no instructions were provided for first timers like my boyfriend. The snorkel guide just so happened to be our boat captain as well. He took us into heavily current waters and my boyfriend cut himself on a coral reef as a result. During our $150 transfer to Caye Calker, the same boat captain got drunk and on our way back, he swerved the boat so hard that a couple who was also on the boat fell into us and hurt my ankle. Although the staff offered ice and a band aid for me and my boyfriend, we felt that this all was extremely careless on their part. When I requested a partial refund through my credit card company, they refused. Do NOT spend your money here! Go to a real all inclusive resort. It’s a shame that this was our experience because I travel frequently and could have referred plenty of new people to come here. Did I mention we came home with random bites all over our body as well? Yeah, never again. 👎🏽

My daughter and I had a wonderful getaway at Shaka Caye. Very calm and relaxed. It has a small but beautiful clean beach with paddle boards and kayaks. If the beach toys aren’t out, you only have to ask. Actually, if there is anything you’d like just ask. While the menu choices were generally limited to a fish, a chicken and a vegetarian option each meal, every thing was prepared in a Belizean manner and delicious. The chef, Gigi, came to the tables to explain the meals. (We were asked when we arrived if we had food preferences which we did not. ) Roddy the bartender and server made things happen. Once during a conversation at the bar, one of us mentioned that we liked ceviche. The next day it was at the bar during cocktail hour. It seems that our room had been recently renovated. Clean with a very nice bathroom. The bed was dreamy. The housekeeping staff left jugs of drinking water in room daily and always asked if we needed anything but they generally had everything covered. We had a great excursion to Caye Caulker with Edwin and I will leave the details so as not to spoil anyone’s adventure. Thank you all, Vee, Fiona and Nigel for your hospitality.

I debated writing this review because I think this place has a lot of potential. I decided to write the review because we booked our stay based on all of the previous glowing reviews. It turns out pretty much all of the staff has been there for ~3 months or less so the positive reviews about staff no longer apply. We could’ve looked past a lot of the cons if we had at least felt welcome and respected by the client-facing staff while we were there. It could’ve been a 5 star review if we weren’t constantly frustrated with the way we were treated. We got less frustrated when we learned we weren’t the only guests that felt this way - we spent a while trying to figure out if we did something to annoy them but it turns out that everyone had the same experience we did. In my complaints below I specifically do not name employees we had a bad time with because I think they could improve and I don’t want to set bad expectations. I do specify the employees that we had good experiences with though! Difficulties: - It was pouring during our boat trip to the island so we were soaked when we arrived, and after saying hello to the staff we went to quickly change into dry clothes. We came back out expecting someone to talk with us or give us the “orientation” to the island but we just aimlessly walked around without direction. We eventually asked about it and the island manager said “you checked in when you got on the boat.” So we went with it even though we felt out of place. Turns out the island manager is the one that should’ve given us the orientation so it was obvious that we did not get one… - During “orientation” or at least in your room, there’s supposed to be a pamphlet of information which details what’s included in the all-inclusive price or not. We were never given this. When we later found out one existed, we asked if we could get one and we were rudely told a couple times “there’s definitely one in your room.” There definitely was not one in the room but they did bring us one after we asked. That’s when we found out we had been getting all sorts of drinks that aren’t included and we didn’t know. - When we mentioned to the manager how we didn’t get the “pamphlet”, and didn’t know we had been buying drinks rather than getting included ones, he apologized and offered to have those drinks taken off our bill. Note, this was conversational and we did not ask them to be removed, just mentioned that going forward, we definitely want him to tell us if we’re getting something that isn’t included. On our last day, we asked to review the bill and those drinks were on there so we reminded about taking them off, and we are told “the employee who forgot to give you the pamphlet will have to pay for those drinks out of pocket but we can remove them.” Which not only is NOT what we were told, but was trying to guilt us into paying for something that we were told would be taken off our bill with no problem. - During orientation they’re supposed to add you to a gro

We wanted a small intimate island experience with options to expand and that is exactly what we got plus so much more!!! The staff was amazing! They welcome you as if you are family and then go out of their way to bring you the Caribbean experience of your dreams. Good food, a beautiful restaurant, the best curated excursions, water views from every corner of the 7 acres of sandy paradise. Come as you are. They provide Kayaks to explore the mangroves, paddle boards, snorkeling gear. The birds! The fish! The iguanas! Andre took us out to secret spot (his office) on the barrier reef and we got to see thousands of beautiful creatures of all kinds and came home with lobster and conch that was cooked up by our chef Brian. So delicious!!!!

First time visit to Shaka Caye. I’ve attempted to be as objective as possible for this review. Living area 1. Old fridge with old snacks and cheap soda. 2. Old coffee maker. 3. No microwave. 4. Water in a plastic jug vs brought in each day. 5. No sofa only two chairs. 6. No working WiFi. Bathroom 1. The toilet wobbles. 2. The shower takes 5 minutes to get hot. 3. Soap and shampoo, but no q-tips, moisturizer, etc. Sleeping area 1. No TV. 2. No closet only a dresser. Deck 1. Hammock is old and no longer stretches out comfortably. Beach 1. No pads on the beach chairs/benches the first few days. 2. Only three umbrellas for 5 villas. 3. Kayaks and boards are old/not maintained. 4. No pool or sitting pool of any kind. Bar 1. Pay extra for beer, wine, etc. 2. Seating is limited and uncomfortable. 3. No entertainment except one TV behind the bar, usually playing music. 4. No bar snacks. Restaurant 1. Mostly buffets. 2. Food is lukewarm. 3. Not farm to table. You’ll eat a lot of eggs, chicken, potatoes, and farmed shrimp. No fresh whole fruit. No fresh anything. 4. Only option for drinks is water and sugary bottled juice. 5. No menu of any kind. Just random things announced each day. 6. You must give what time you’re arriving for each meal within a predetermined two hour window. No late breakfast, early lunch, etc. 7. Sewage smell on hot days. 8. No room service. Game Room 1. One TV. 2. A few board games. 3. Old sofas with torn cushions. 4. Musty. This is a 2 star experience at best. Maybe worth $100-ish per night. Most certainly not worth $800-$900 per night. Finally, the entire staff (10-15 people) are housed in one or two villas which seems inhumane. Best to avoid Shaka Caye.

I went with my husband for 7 days, and words do not do Shaka enough justice. It’s a secluded island paradise with phenomenal service, excellent food, and the bluest water you’ll ever see. Shaka’s beaches & surrounding water look unreal at times, like they should be Microsoft backgrounds. It’s just far enough out into the ocean that you’ll see some super cool marine & wildlife. The rooms are perfect, just pick one, they’re literally all on a beach. I can’t shout out to the staff enough. Hector’s bar is lit! The drinks are fantastic, whether you choose his Belizean pour or a nice rum punch, he’ll even deliver it to you on the beach. If he’s not at the bar, don’t worry, he’s just getting more ice. Rodwell & Vee are fantastic butlers who will bring your meal to your room, but don’t skip on dining with them in the dining room, the views are spectacular! Chef Breezy’s creations in the kitchen will blow your mind. He doesn’t do a rotation of meals, he puts out two options for each meal a couple hours before serving. Everything was so fresh and delicious, we wondered how we were hungry again for each meal. I’m still adjusting back to regular American food. Our boat captain, Edwin, picked us up at the airport & boated us right over to paradise. He also took us and some new friends on a day trip to Caye Caulker, where we drank Lazy Lizards, swam with sharks, pet stingrays, and fed tarpons. Highly recommend as this was one of the coolest excursions of our lives. If you’re still questioning Shaka, just don’t. Book it because you (and I) will be dreaming about this trip for decades. I will never stop singing Hector’s fave (now mine too) Joanna, Jo, Jo. Thank you to all of y’all at Shaka for making this the most exceptional vacation! We will absolutely be back, you better Belize it!
