This was probably our best family vacation yet! We were at Caves Branch with a family of 4, kids are 10 and 13 and VERY active. They don't like "lounging on the beach" kind of trips. We booked a full week, with 5 full excursions. The cabin (Jungle Suite) was clean and large. There were separate sleeping spaces for the bunk bed and the queen bed. The bathroom is in the middle with both an indoor an outdoor shower. The beds were comfortable enough. Each sleeping space was surrounded on 3 sides with screen windows (no glass). The queen bed space had an air conditioner that helped a bit with the humidity. Although it was over 100 degrees during the day, it got pretty chilly at night. There were no window coverings, but enough jungle growth that we never felt exposed to people on the walking paths. They brought an extra stand fan to help beat the heat. The howler monkeys were LOUD some nights, and I was woken up by a nearby pair of parrots very early most mornings. But we were so exhausted from the longs days, that we went to bed pretty early anyway. The pool itself had plenty of shade (though we couldn't always get a lounger in the shade.) The pool was beautiful, and steps away from the river where the kids also liked to play. The river was shallow and calm, with tadpoles and fish. At the pool, staff came around frequently taking drink and food orders. Breakfast and dinner was served buffet style in the dining room at assigned communal tables. Breakfast was the same most morning with eggs and omelets, meats, beans, potatoes, fruit, and pastries. Dinner was about an hour and a half long - first course was salad, soup, and pasta, followed by the main course of different meats and vegetables, and then dessert. I'm a vegetarian and had no problem, though I mostly had the salad and pasta. The seating was very tight at times. The food was good, but after a full week, I was ready for some more variety. For my very picky kid, plain pasta every night was available. For my peanut allergy kid, the meals were not a problem, but the cookies that were available in the lodge DID contain peanut products, but the jar was not labeled and the staff was unsure. *It would have been VERY helpful if it was clearly labeled (along with vegetarian, gluten free, and other specifications.)* Lunches were provided on some excursions - usually tortillas with meat, cheese, hard boiled eggs, and a variety of fresh vegetables. If you weren't having lunch on the excursion, there were options provided at the lodge (quesadillas, chicken fingers etc). The property itself is beautiful and very well maintained. There's a small botanical garden on site, and plants along the pathways are labeled and have signs teaching about the plants. The real star of the show is the excursions. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable about the history, wildlife, plants, safety, etc. The cave tubing was easy and slow paced with a little history thrown in. The waterfalls were a bit strenuous, like
