Please do not stay here. The staff is rude and the room they provided us was infested with flies on the ceiling (see attached photos). We asked for our money back so that we could stay elsewhere, and they refused. We still went somewhere else despite the $150 loss because the room was that gross. I'm surprised to see this hotel has good reviews because based on my experience, it was horrendous.

Nice and clean hotel. The room facing the courtyard was quiet. Only the birds started singing very loudly at 4 am!
No unnecessary(!) cleaning during my stay of 5 days.

2 rooms reserved for 3 nights. Surprise, the rooms were not cleaned during our entire stay….. I pointed this out to the manager when paying my bill. Response from said manager: you had to ask at reception! Never seen ! And yet I have already been to this hotel several times and never a single problem. Result of the races: 4% discount after much discussion…. Not a word of apology! Hello sadness 😢

We found this hotel in the Rough Guide to Berlin and it was a perfect base for our three day stay, central enough but a quieter, residential neighbourhood packed with character. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious. We hope to return next year!

I travelled to Berlin several times for work over the last two years and always stayed in one of the big chains. This time I had problems getting a room because it was a public holiday, so I decided to stay at the Hotel Johann in Kreuzberg. From the outside, the hotel doesn't look like much. A rather dreary red building in the middle of a residential area. I was all the more surprised when I got to my room. Very modern, large and clean rooms. A very nice bathroom, also large, attractive design, very clean. But the ceiling in my room was special. They left the old vaulted ceiling made of red brick there. This gives the room a really great a**osphere. The breakfast was also OK. There is a car park opposite the hotel, but with a bit of luck you can also park on the street. Very friendly staff. A real insider tip.

A beautiful, well-kept and clean hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired. The rooms facing the garden are absolutely quiet. The hotel is centrally located. We will come back for a longer stay.

I stayed in Hotel Johann for 10 days in April and May and simply loved it. I had a single room facing the courtyard and it was perfect for me. The room wasn’t big, but well organised, the bed (linen, pillows and mattress) very comfortable, and maybe the best thing was to be able to open the two windows in several different ways, listening to the birds singing, and getting a good nights sleep having an open window. The breakfast was fantastic, a good choice of several healthy choices, and the personal nice and helpful. If you are a biker, it’s a good thing that you can keep your bike in the locked courtyard during the night.
