We stayed here for 1 night on our way home down south. We were greeted by friendly lady who showed us to our room and gave us sheets to fill in for breakfast in the morning. She told us where was good locally to get food as they don’t offer evening meals. Our room was massive and beautifully decorated. Drapes over bed head, big comfy sofa, wardrobe, dressing table, tv, tea/coffee making facilities. En-suite bathroom was stunning too. Freestanding roll top bath, walk in shower, his/hers sinks. Plenty of towels provided and bathrobes. Toiletries too. Room had lovely view of gardens and across hills. We had chosen breakfast as requested and went down on time. Sat at table for 20 minutes then went to find someone. Lady we did find wasn’t happy as she was on her own as no other staff had turned up.! I had ordered scrambled eggs and bacon and a croissant , my husband ordered toast and cereal. Mine came out freshly cooked. Croissants came out 10 minutes later on a board to go on sideboard with cereals. Our toast then came out after. Had to ask for orange juice which we were told was usually out on sideboard but as she was on her own hadn’t been done. Got a little tired of being told she wasn’t pleased she’d been left on her own. Finished breakfast, packed and left not seeing any other member of staff. Sadly not somewhere we would stay again even though beautiful rooms. Other thing was the little milk portions left for tea/coffee making were 5 weeks out of date ! Went down to get jug of fresh milk instead.

Second time we have stayed at Kateshill House. We stayed the same time last year and it is still as good as the first, if not better. This time we stayed in the Henry room. A large and exceptionally opulent clean and peaceful room, with a very large and comfortable bed! Sam and her staff are very welcoming and ensured everything was perfect. A delicious breakfast overlooking the beautiful garden. Five minute walk to the river and pubs nearby - perfect. Garden views were amazing - credit going to the gardener who we met this time and received some good advice on how to keep a gravel drive looking so good! I am certain we will return.

Poor customer service. For a 5* B&B I would expect a welcoming service. Food was average, bed was uncomfortable, curtain fell down and couldn’t be put back up. Which clearly happened often - they need to solve the ongoing issue? Carpets stained, windows filthy. I asked to move rooms due the uncomfortable bed and was told no instantly saying there wasn’t any spare rooms. I know this was untrue because I could book a room for that date. I was advised to just get drunk if I was poorly.. not funny when you have paid this amount of money. I’ve stayed at many hotels and bnbs with 3 or 4 star ratings that have gone above and beyond for their customers. The only positive thing about this place is the garden.

Had a lovely stay in a beautiful country house hotel. Our room, called Boleyn was very grand with such unusual decor. Sam and her team were brilliant and very attentive. The cooked breakfast was great as was the portion size! Would highly recommend this hotel.

We booked for Afternoon Tea. The staff very attentive and food plentiful and fresh. In terms of cakes you were given a lovely fresh scone and then could help yourself to 4 other cake options on the sideboard. What let it down was the ambience in the room. It is crying out for pictures on the wall, some colour. Fresh or faux flowers on the tables. Also, some background music. What we heard was the radio on in the kitchen with sport commentary. Not what you want to hear. A menu of all the teas on offer would be good. It was assumed we wanted box standard English tea. We had to ask for options. Finally, the one toilet available downstairs needs quality hand-wash and towels . I would change the signage too. At the moment it's a 'make do' plastic sign. I hope these comments are helpful.

We had a truly wonderful afternoon tea at Kateshill House to celebrate my 50th birthday yesterday (9th March). Samantha the Manager, Hannah and all of their colleagues went above and beyond for us. The fresh food was truly delicious within such beautiful surroundings and you made this celebration truly wonderful - thank you

Cannot fault the hotel, rooms, staff, food or location! Absolutely 5 star throughout. We stayed in Henry, spotlessly clean and quiet with fabulous bed and bedding. Breakfast was superior to any i have had. Didn’t visit the bar but it looked cosy, as did the lounge. Super friendly staff too. Highly recommended and we will return.

Having read the great reviews we booked afternoon tea. Attractive and comfortable venue and pleasant staff, however the tea didn’t live up to expectation. The sandwiches were very average one smoked salmon per person and egg mayo, corned beer, cheese and pickle and cheese with a sliver of ham. The sausage rolls and quiche were nice but the cakes were very disappointing. The homemade scone was over baked, dry and crumbly saved only by generous potion of cream and jam and the cake consisted of two uninspiring one inch squares per person. It didn’t compare well with other local venues and not good value.
