Down Hall Hotel

Beautiful place to stay with stunning building and grounds. Bedroom was clean, spacious and quiet. Breakfast was great along with service.

I was attending a wedding talking place at the hotel. Everything worked well. The service and food throughout was excellent, and the room well appointed.

These days a lot of hotels brand themselves as four star but the service not up to that standard. The same cannot be said of Down Hall, you get what you pay for, attentive, helpful staff high quality accommodation in a beautiful listed building.

Fantastic weekend spent celebrating friends 50th borthdays. The private dining option was perfect for us - a group of 14. Communication with Amy before the event was fantastic and straightforward. On the night itself Eloise, who looked after, us was very attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious (personally speaking the raspberry sorbet was the best I’ve ever tasted!) Our rooms were great with comfortable beds (the only minor complaint is that the shower had no power) Breakfast the next morning was also delicious with plenty of options. Staff were again very attentive. We managed to do a walk round the grounds which are beautiful. All in all a lovely 24 hours with friends. Would highly recommend Down Hall as an option if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion with friends

We stayed for 1 night to celebrate my husband's birthday. We received a welcome Happy Birthday plate with some yummy treats. It was mid-week which meant the hotel was quiet which suited us perfectly. Staff were helpful and professional. The room was spotless. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. We had a drink in the Fox bar which was tasteful. My espresso martini was faultless. Food in the main restaurant was very nice, although the food menu for fox bar looked more to my taste. We stayed on a deal for bed breakfast and dinner, might have been good to have the option to eat in either of the restaurants (they might have accommodated this if I had asked). We went to the wet spa which was an extra £28 per person, I felt this was perhaps a little on the pricey side for what it was. I would still definitely stay again.

Dissapointed on overall experience. Spa needs to be booked seperately which isn’t clear at booking stage, and isnt big enough to offer a same day admittance. Sadden by the whole experince.

A year after our last visit, the hotel has had some refurbishment. The breakfast area has moved to another, more appropriate, location. The garden is getting a makeover. Some rooms have been renovated, but not all. Ours was on the first floor and hadn’t been renovated. It was a very large room, but outdated. It needs a freshen up of the decor and carpets, and a bathroom makeover. The hotel needs to sort out the hot water issues too. It takes far too long, and much waste of water, to get a hot bath or shower. The staff are friendly and helpful. We ate in The Fox bar on two nights. The bar staff are lovely and so amenable. The food was good - the massaman curry was particularly good! My Caesar salad with grilled chicken was very generous. The driveway to the car park is heavily pitted and rutted - some very big potholes! But en route you can spot rabbits, pheasants and deer.

My wife and I had our wedding at Down Hall Hotel & Spa and it's safe to say, we could not have been happier. From the minute we saw the venue, we knew it would be perfect for us and were so happy when we had everything finalized. The building itself is a beautiful converted manor estate complete with gorgeous grounds and great amenities. The staff are all friendly, polite and go out of their way to give guests the best experience during their stay. I would like to especially mention a few key people who made our stay and wedding day so special. Firstly, Hannah who greeted us on arrival at reception. Her warm personality made us feel right at home and couldn't have done more to make sure we had everything we needed. And Oliver, who quite frankly is a superman with how happy he was taking all of our baggage and belongings up to multiple rooms for us and always checking in to see if we had everything. As for the team on the wedding day, Ryan who went above and beyond to put us at ease and allowed us to focus purely on the wedding itself. Ryan ensured the catering team were in sync with food timings, serving drinks and took good care of my wife and I. And then Julie, who visited each of our guests with dietary requirements individually to check everything was confirmed and understood. These guests highlighted how valued and included this made them feel where at previous events, they have felt overlooked. Next, a huge thank you to our Wedding Coordinator Zoe who was truly crucial in the planning and execution of the day. Zoe was so helpful and patient taking on board all of our requests and requirements and made sure everything was perfect for the ceremony and the layout of the function room looked just as expected. We never felt rushed or less important than other upcoming weddings or events when in her company and she was truly professional throughout. Finally, we cannot speak highly of Annalise who despite being incredibly busy overseeing the team, always made the time to check in with us and address any queries we had in the build up. She seemed genuinely invested in ensuring the day went perfectly for us all and her attention to detail was exemplary. It is clear she also appreciates the amazing team she has working under her and their ability to throw an amazing wedding! Annalise, Zoe, Ryan, Julie, Oliver and Hannah are each an asset to Down Hall and we cannot thank them enough for everything they did, throwing us the perfect wedding.

The best adapted facilities for a wheelchair user that I’ve experienced anywhere. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an accessible get away. The grounds were also very beautiful. The staff were very curious and helpful with all our enquiries.
