Dinner and breakfast excellent, room excellent, lovely fire, service haphazard clearing of tables

Booked here adhoc last minute and went off our planned route by a fair distance as we wanted somewhere quaint and on a scenic route. Arrived in time for what looked like a nice looking bar restaurant. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. The team took our food and drink order and we did not have to wait long for the food to arrive. The portion sizes were big and for the price of £21.50 per Sunday lunch I’d expect that. We did have to ask where were the toast potatoes that were advertised on the menu so the server had to hurriedly disappear and come back with them. Because they’d had to go away and get the potatoes I feel that all they had done was get some potatoes from the pre prep area and didn’t bother to brown them off in the beef dripping as they looked a bit anaemic in colour, that said though they were nice tasting. Overall our meals were tasty and we were glad we did not order any starters. We finished our drinks and declined any deserts and asked for our bill. During the meal the team were attentive and came around asking was all ok to which it was. Once the bill arrived I checked it like I normally do, and thought the red wine my missus had had was a tad expensive but I am aware this is how eateries make their extra cash in what is a hard business to operate in. I though did check the price against the menu and observed that we’d been charged £12.85 a glass which is very expensive for a Rioja. The issue though was the menu card on our table was only showing £11.20. We raised the question with the staff and they went away and checked. They came back a short period later and said the £12.75 was correct to which I then showed them the menu card on our table. They disappeared again and came back and said it was an old card so it’s still £12.75. Yes it’s only pennies but they didn’t even to apologise and say we will honour the menu price. Nothing. Fortunately my missus got me to bite my tongue and not make a further scene. We took the bill paid and left. We did not leave a tip which was a shame as up to this point the staff had done a decent job. The staff lost out because of managements policy on incorrectly charging beverages and not looking after its customers. When we left nine of the staff said good bye thank you nothing. Which we found rude. It’s shame as we do know if some local companies who’d we would have recommended to visit here but now we won’t. And fair to say we will not be back either. The 3 stars is for the tasty food and for the atmosphere. I normally only write 4/5star reviews but I’ve also changed my policy on this just like this place changes policy on charging customer against shown menu prices.

We absolutely loved this place for our sons Christening. It was October 2023 so we are a little late in thanking everyone but had to say how much we were all looked after by all the staff over the weekend we stayed. We had a disaster with the Christening cake that was damaged in transit and the chef did a top job with repairing the cake and really did a fantastic job for us on the big day. All the staff went above and beyond to cater for everyone and helped us all throughout our stay. The accommodation was beautiful and very tranquil and the hospitality we received by managers and bar staff was first class. Will definitely be back this year for another visit. Thank you everyone for making our sons Christening a fantastic occasion.

A mixed review : Booked online having read the TA reviews. Ideal location just off M6. Lots of parking space. Very friendly staff. Enjoyed supper. Our room was disappointing, much smaller than the pics implied. Only one rickety chair & nowhere to sit and be comfortable. Bathroom just ok. Beds comfy. Expensive for what it was.

The Millstone is a real little find, tucked away in the village of Mellor. Friendly staff, lovely food and ambience and nicely decorated, comfortable rooms. We had a lovey dinner and breakfast, all freshly home cooked. and all very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend.

Held a meeting, lunch and walk at Millstone Mellor. The whole experience from the welcome with Zoe and service from Voula and Tom all day exceeded expectations. Great place and would highly recommend to anyone as a trip away or work get together!

They always operate to a very high standard. Cheap, it isn't, but as we say: " you get what you pay for".

Called in off spec , very friendly and attentive staff , welcoming warm real fire ! Lovely. Had our light meal in the restaurant, smoked haddock fish cake with poached egg and hollandaise sauce and perfect amount of chunky chips 👌🏼 and the beef lasagne with garlic bread and chunky chips 👌🏼 absolutely beautiful 🤩 washed down with a large glass each of Chilean Merlot and a bottle of table water .. perfect , we will see you again very soon 🤩

We had a 1 night stay here while I was a day patient at the Beardwood hospital. My husband had lunch there while I was in Hospital, and we both had dinner and drinks. Michael the manager was super, and this was the case with the whole team. Top notch professionalism. Attentive without being OTT. It is rare you get such happy staff in hotels these days. The food in the restaurant was great. The chicken Tikka and cod from the special menu were both superb. Would have loved a dessert but no room! Beautiful presentation with the food too. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite which was amazing. Home made shortbread in the room and a good coffee machine. White Company toiletries in the room and toilets in the main hotel. George the resident cat is a love and the roaring fire welcome on a cold winter day. There is a doggy food menu too! Highly recommend this hotel. Hope to return!
