Friendly host, nice dinner, good location for visiting Hatusha. Unfortunately room very cold and moist, provided electric heater didn’t help much. Bathroom extremely small, not enough hot water for two people. Breakfast rather limited.

How would you judge a hotel whose owner insistently asks you via WhatsApp to cancel the reservation made through a specialized site offering you a discount and upon your refusal, after having been paid in cash, declares to the site in question: 1) that your card credit card was invalid (!), 2) that you didn't show up at his hotel (!!), and then, after reading the critical review you wrote on the above site - giving it a 7 -, he sends you a another whatsapp where he insults you? I believe that "terrible" is the only possible judgment. Also because the character in question, in the two days of our stay, having learned that my traveling companion drinks wine, did nothing but joke about it and make a strong anti-alcohol propaganda (and try to sell us anything). Really a bad experience.

I decided to stay at this hotel despite the mixed reviews mainly because hotel choices were so limited and because it was conveniently located to Hattusa, but I must say, this was a low point in our trip. Ahmet is not only the receptionist, but also housekeeping, and the cook which seems too much for a single person to do. The room was functional but not at all comfortable for several reasons. The room was lighted with dull fluorescent bulbs which gave it a sort of institutional feel. The bathroom was not clean and the mat on the floor was wet. The shower spigot was mineralized so that the spray was weak and sporadic. The bed was covered in a flat sheet so we ended up finding ourselves sleeping directly on the mattress in the middle of the night. But worst of all, the heat was off so we had to wear our coats, hats and shoes in the room just to be tolerably comfortable. After being out all day in the cold, it was frustrating not being able to get warm at the hotel. And then the food was the worst we had in our one month trip in Turkey. We ate dinner there on both nights and I was quite surprised at how much we were charged for a flavorless meal when we had eaten some excellent food at half the cost in other cities.

The location of the hotel was very convenient as it was close to Hattuşa. Also, the facilities were calm and the staff were kind and I had a very good trip.

We was visiting the area as family (7yo) on our trip to Hattusha, The place is overall despite its historic value in comparison to other turkey places not very touristic. Thats said, family-run Hotel Baykal is a good and reliable place to stay. The owner is very very helpful and supportive. The rooms are clean and spacious but

Following the opinions of other travelers I chose this hotel, without realizing that the opinions were old. The hotel is very dated, with little soundproofing between rooms. Inhospitable and a bit dumpy appearance. The owner seemed to try hard to be friendly and helpful, but he almost forced us to eat a meal there that was expensive for Turkish prices, as well as the stay. I didn't know what toast was. In short, an unhappy experience.

Maybe years ago this hotel was a good option, but not anymore, I will explain why. We had a bad experience there, which turned even worse later, the last paragraph of my review is the deep end. Trying to benefit from the convenient location they want to charge high rates, but the conditions are below average. The hotel itself is not well maintained, the room wasn't very clean and some small things need repairs. The main reason is that the current manager is not the person who built and looked after the hotel years ago. We also had dinner at the hotel, a big mistake - a tasteless dish made from something frozen came with a price tag of a nice meal in a major city. During the short hours of our stay, we had several encounters with the manager, who told us the sad story of his brother and father dying recently. At one point he made a huge scene as some local people had parked in "his" spot - banging doors, shouting, etc. Another issue was that "his price" was different from the one we had booked online, but the difference was 1 EUR, so I just let it slide. He had the audacity to tell the booking site that I had requested a room upgrade to justify the price change, as the amount was so tiny I didn't even bother to discuss it. Even after all those issues, I left him a short review on the booking site with a higher rating than deserved - a generous 4/10, I didn't even go into details. And that's where the situation took a sharp turn. The manager began sending me insults and demands to delete my review. As I did not delete the review he went absolutely mental. He kept sending insults covering not just me, but my wife, family, country and my country's main religion. Then he began with the threats. He showed me that he had my profile pic (it's public) and he told me that he has notified the police, army and several embassies (where he has friends) that I am a terrorist. And yes, I do realise that this person has my personal details, including my passport. I filed a formal complaint with the hotel booking site, but there is nothing they can do.
