La Casa del Zorro

We will stay longer than 2 nights next time and try to catch the spring blooms. The stargazing (lyrid) was spectacular even with the quarter moon(Wow, the darkest sky I've ever seen.). Love all the facilities and appreciated all the warm, welcoming staff. Romi at the front desk is great.

This is a tough review to write as my family and I have been coming to this resort for decades, since I was a child. Overall, the landscaping and facilities are beautiful and tennis and swimming in the various pools keeps us occupied during our stay. However, it is clear housekeeping and overall service have declined and need improvement. We found 2 cockroaches in our casita, and while this was dismissed by the woman at the front desk as common in the area we have stayed here 20+ times and have never seen them before. My sister's bed had multiple dead flies in it when she pulled back the covers and my parents' bed similarly had stained sheets with what looked like body fluids from a prior guest. The casita we rented (and often stay in) oddly seemed to be missing furniture, though the front desk dug up a side table and extra chair for us when we called. Wifi worked erratically for different members of my family on different devices, if at all, which was frustrating and disruptive for those of us trying to work remotely. We were told to go to the town's library for the most reliable internet service. General cleanliness and wifi unavailability was unacceptable for the price of our stay, with dirty doors, showers, and trash tucked beside bedside tables from prior guests adding to the list. On the positive, the new cafe is great for Starbucks coffees, grab and go snacks and convenience items; we wished it was open all day. The landscaping is beautiful. The casita did have full cooking facilities and dishware (though note this varies casita-by-casita as kitchen set-ups differ in each - you have to check the description when booking) and when housekeeping was called to change the sheets they were friendly and helpful. We will be back because this is a special place for our family, but we will be crossing our fingers some serious improvements are made to cleanliness standards before then.

Nice fun place to stay and lots of history under its belt. The grounds and pools are kept nice and organized given the desert location . The front desk was helpful and attentive to our needs as we had to borrow an adapter for or EV and they were happy to help us with a loner. A great stay and as expected for an older resort located in the harsh desert. Patrick

The check in was smooth and the person welcoming and friendly. We were disappointed to realize that the casita we rented (and prepaid in full) was close to a busy road (like almost all other casitas) and thus traffic noise was pretty constant. More surprising though was that even though the casita has a small kitchen area with fridge, micro wave and sitting area, there were no plates or cutlery on site even though there were plenty of empty drawers and cupboards. During our stay we were provided with plastic cutlery and paper plates, not the quality one expects for a place of $420 per night. During check out a costly mistake was made and we were charged an additional $ 1200 even though we already had paid in full.Initially no one apologized and we were told that it can take up to 5-10 business day to see the refund on our credit card. It took three more emails from my end to rectify the situation as after 10days not all refund been refunded . After acknowledging the mistake I would have expected for the business office to be more pro-active to solve the issue. In short: unfortunately the price/value for this resort is not justified and it was up to the customer to take initiative several times to get reimbursed for the costly mistake they made. I would have offered a discount to keep the client happy.

The hotel grounds are gorgeous, and our room was big and nice, overlooking the pool. The facilities, however, our rundown. The one restaurant was often not open during the day, the pools were not heated, and when I asked the first time, I was told that they are heated, and when I followed up again, they said that the heaters were broken, because March was a very busy month for them. The pool areas are in need of repairs and maintenance. The cafe/market had few options.

They didn't tell us they don't make up rooms each day. Ok we asked that they do this day two and could they bring us fresh towels. Four requests later throughout the day and still no towels. Room had some newer features but was dated. The room above us sounded like elephants walking . Finally cigarette buts in sand outside our room? Well a nice place but not 3 or 4 stars.

Lovely, quiet place. Large “deluxe” room on second floor. Not easy for 81- and 86-year olds to navigate. Canapé bed, sans canapé, was so high we struggled to get in/out , No little step stool to help the climb, Arrived two hours early and receptionist said she’d contact us when housekeeping was finished. She left an hour later when her shift ended. Other receptionist was helpful and called to find our room ready and waiting. Hmm? Dinner was poor, although our waiter was a gem! Only really good thing was volcano cake. We had nothing to drink, one salad and shared dessert. Bill was $136.

Shower took over five minutes to start producing water and there was zero hot water. Had to take a cold shower. Found 2 cockroaches in the room. Double charged me. No working lights in jacuzzi and broken jacuzzi tiles by the entrance of the stairs. Called for maintenance, but was told that the lights just don’t work and they gave us a flashlight lol. Front desk ladies were very nice. For almost $800 for 2 nights I’m definitely disappointed.

My wife and I were there for our 3rd anniversary so it was important thaat the experience be joyful. We were not disappointed! Check In was so easy and friendly. We were in an up stairs room and it absolutely immaculate. There was an issue with the AC and staihad it resolved quickly. We had dinner at the restaurant both evenings. The staff was great as were the means. The ambiance of the grounds was very peaceful. This place is a real oasis. Looking forward to our return 😊
