Glaramara Hotel

We stayed at the Glaramara Centre whilst walking the Coast to Coast Trail. Very comfortable hotel, large bedroom, modern ensuite. Great dinner, delicious veg, home made chocolate. Great breakfast. They even made us a sandwich for our walk.

Stayed with friends at the end of the second stage of the Coast To Coast Walk. We booked direct on a D,B&B basis. The booking process was efficient and helpful. The hotel was well located for the end of the second section of the C2C Walk and is possibly better located than Rosthwaite for moving onto the next section. The hotel is very well decorated and furnished. The single rooms are not large but sufficient and more than adequate for single accommodation. The reception, bar, lounge and dining room are lovely. Dinner was superb. We all had lamb and it was absolutely superb. Breakfast was also very good. Staff were all warm, welcoming and helpful. All in all, good value for money. And, by the way, great views.

Very friendly staff, great food, great location for walking

Of all the places we stayed in the Lakes on our coast to coast trip this had a more upmarket hotel feel with a fantastic restaurant. It was nice to feel treated and we were meeting an old friend so a great evening was had. Only issue is that I would have upgraded to a double room as the single room and bed were a little small.

After driving round Derwentwater looking at the main attractions we came to this welcoming hotel and decided to have light lunch. Nothing was too much trouble and we sat down on comfy chairs with a fantastic view. We had a combination of tasty thick fresh ham and cheese sandwiches with salad and crunchy chips plus a pot of tea and decaf coffee. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

This review is aimed at people not intended to stay but simply use the open far and food menu advertised as you approach the premise. There was a small group of us staying at a local campsite and saw the sign for open bar and food. As soon as we entered the vibe changed. The first night the bar man actually removed all the bar snacks when we entered and despite asking about food was told it was for guests only. The second and final night we visited again we were told food is only for residents, the sign approaching the premises states there’s food and drinks available for non guests. In particular a gent called Martin clearly took some kind of offence to us being present and actively avoided engaging in conversation and made a conscious effort to inform us we were in the way and there were certain areas we were no longer allowed to access. The building itself is fantastic and the service whilst, definitely begrudging, it was good, the prices were reasonable and had it not been the fact I’d been made to feel so unwelcome, I would have looked to book to stay here with family.

Good stay

Big hills all around. Hourly bus to Keswick, even in December. Superb heating and chef !
