The Major Mitchell Motel

Do not stay. Tiles falling off shower wall. Black rubber mats covering broken and missing tiles on shower floor. Curtains dirty. Carpet not the best. Beds were comfy though. $170 a night was way too expensive. Young indigenous riding around units at 3am on skateboards. Lock everything up

Although this motel is in an ideal location for those passing through it is in need of some upkeep. We were provided with what was according to the staff a renovated room, however the renovations were superficial with part of the ceiling badly cracked and the cornice falling down in parts. Also the grounds are fairly unkept. On the bright side the room was clean, the bed comfortable and they supplied the minimum tea and coffee making facilities. For the price we paid in comparison to other better motels on our trip, it was not value for money.

We had a renovated room. Was clean, well appointed with all new furniture. Room was larger then most family motel rooms which was nice. Staff were helpful and gave a great recommendation for Chinese take-away at the bowls club. Would stay again.

The room had recently been renovated with new beds and furniture also. They were so comfortable and the room was set out perfect for a family. The young man managing was very polite and helpful. He also advised us the best places to dine. Thankyou will come again when travelling though.

Was overpriced for what it is. They are renovating but some of the work is very poor quality. Retiled the shower area but the tiles outside were still the old ones and were chipped. The room wasn't the cleanest and was chewing gum in the bathroom.The staff were ok.Just checked you and left again so no local info.Hoping if we go back again will have improved.

Definitely not worth the money, the most expensive motel that i stayed when i was travelling from QLD to SA. All the facilities were poorly maintained, the room was not clean and bad smell kept coming from the drain. The microwave was disgusting that i had to ask for an replacement.

OMG. Really awful. Desperately in need of a reno. Broken tiles, worst paint job ever and beds that are truly appalling. Over-priced to hell. $181 a night! Seriously keep driving or stay elsewhere. Don’t stay here.

Arrived to find this motel had ceased dealing with *********** and although we had booked several months prior we had no booking. We were told the price quoted by *********** would not apply but decided to stay anyway. I will say the bed was comfortable , However, the rest was pretty bad. The toilet roo was on top of the cistern and the shower floor was painted black and in poor condition. All in all Bourke was a disappointment in an otherwise great trip. Please be aware as this motel is still on *********** with prices and ability to book. We travelled in September/ October and this is the only place which left us feeling unsafe also. We were advised not to walk to the hotel for a meal as apparently it is dangerous. A group of young people apparently walk around accosting people. Both the motel owner and a lady taking orders in the hotel said to catch a free bus and not to walk. It is only 500m to the hotel. We walked anyway without incident as it was early evening. Next time we travel to S.A. We will avoid Bourke completely.
