We googled this place and went by the previous reviews. It did not disappoint, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in the lakes. We sat by the roaring fire and made our choice. I had the goat cheese starter which was divine and my partner had the homemade tomato soup. Both were so tasty and delicious. Our dog was welcomed and found his place in front of the fire. Next came the Sea Bass special and Steak and ale pie which again was absolutely delicious and scrummy!! All washed down with a bottle of Shiraz. Perfect evening in the middle of nowhere. Thank you so much We will be back xx

We visited on route to the North Lakes. Lovely family lunch, great service and cosy pub beautifully decorated for Christmas. Food was very nice and good value for money. We would recommend and will visit again soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed our break in the Lakes. Trees and lines down because of Storm Debi but repaired and roads reopened with amazing speed. Everywhere very damp and squelchy but warm rooms and nice food. Staff very hospitable- in spite of power cut they managed beer for my husband and a pot of tea for me. Stairs are steep and narrow as you would expect in an inn of that age, lovely bathroom ,plenty of parking . The breakfasts were very good with gorgeous bread and lovely jams. Always good bacon and sausage in the Lakes. Could have done with steps to get in the bath! Only caveat was the pillows needed a firmer base.

Fantastic weekend stay at the Hare & Hounds Inn. Extremely welcoming and friendly staff, helpful when it came to advice on where to go etc and the food generally (dinner and breakfast) was fantastic.

This was a visit due to a recommendation who was championing the food they serve here at The Hare & Hounds! Having been out recently for a wonderful meal in Winster I was expecting something unique here due to the quite high prices of their food. Comparable to The Brown Horse Inn but without the classic dishes. So simple meals such as burgers, pies and sausages for example should be easy for a well trained chef/Cook. We put our order in plus drinks but the starter came before the drinks. It is much quicker to go to the bar yourself as the table service on drinks was very slow! The starters looked fine although I didn't order one myself. Then came the mains. The sausage meal didn't come with the ordered veg although no complaint was made. We just got on with it. The pie could have done with an additional pot of gravy! The burger was very tough, needed a lot of chewing and lacked any flavour other than salt!. Like it had either been frozen before hand or squashed during the cooking which starved it of any juices. It was very salty which was over whelming. It was not possible to eat more than a third. Was it due to the salty bacon placed on top of the burger while cooking or just over seasoned? Hard to say. Either way it was like having a salt mouth wash. The fries were about 30 to 45 seconds under cooked. They were just done, they were still white and lacked that browness you get when they are fried crispy and Hot! They also came in a little pot which resulted in a very small portion. Why they don't put them on the plate is beyond me! Just be more generous! It's not like frozen fries cost much! It didn't make the presentation of the dish any better. Just adds to more unnecessary washing up. The coleslaw was okay but this did need to be in the pot as it was a little runny which would have resulted in a soggy bap and fries. I wanted to be impressed but it was very mediocre indeed. I'm sure there are some dishes the chefs/cooks aspire to and create well. But at least get the basics right! Maybe this was one off! Maybe people just don't know what a good burger and fries is and don't make constructive criticism when things are not very good! Either way, I hope this review is taken on board and they rethink how they make and cook burgers and reacess the way they fry and present fries! Just turn the salt down please!

This Inn is a great little place. The staff were very friendly and informative. The room was lovely, comfortable bed and pillows separate roll top bath and shower on suite. Great atmosphere, fires lit in bar with great food and beer couldn’t fault it. Breakfast and Dinner were the best we had on our mini tour of the lakes. Will definitely recommend and hope to return

We had an excellent early evening meal at the Hare & Hounds. The food was very good and the friendly service and atmosphere made us feel very welcome. The dog was made to feel very welcome too. Well worth a trip.
