Granary Kitchen We are long time customers of Tewinbury Farm, and often recommend to friends and family who have events or just want a family meal. Would todays experience stop us coming again?… probably not but it may be a whilst until we come back. We decided to come for family lunch today. The staff were wonderful, really attentive. I checked in with them when received the menu (which helpfully listed gf in items) if there were items that could be adapted to be gluten free and I was advised the sandwiches as they have gluten free bread. The team were really flexible with the children wanting to swap the veggies that came with their lunch, which was amazing. When the meal came, my husbands fish batter was very dark brown, assuming maybe it seasoned it became apparent it was burnt and inedible (it had unpleasant aftertaste), he had to send it back for another. When my sandwich arrived, I was told unfortunately due to fryer being contaminated the fries were not an option. I appreciated that honesty as it would make me sick (maybe could have been told sooner). I asked if there’s an alternative instead, and when returned a blank I suggested - “I’m quite happy with boiled potatoes, or maybe new potatoes?” This was checked, and was advised “we can do roast potatoes”. Unfortunately, these turned out to be reheated (maybe left overs from Sunday roast the day before) and tasted rather stale. I have always assumed being a farm restaurant the food to be fresh, so was rather surprised. Particularly as boiled potatoes are quite easy thing to cook - I am left wondering now if meals served mostly involves heating things up rather than being freshly cooked. (Just a note quite often given pan fried chips when the fryer is contaminated in other restaurants locally). Overall, the service was excellent, but the food fell a bit short this time. We'll probably be back to Tewinbury Farm, but maybe after some time to let the kitchen get back on track.
