Chimney House Hotel

Oh dear. This was an afternoon tea that was a gift for Christmas but due to Covid, we have only just been able to come. Shouldn’t have bothered. The hotel looked beautiful on arrival and although quiet, the reception was attractive. We were shown to our table and were disappointed to see a tray of teabags, coffee and individual milk portions. The woman who showed us to our table said that they are doing things differently with Covid. We accepted this but we hoped the rest of the experience would be more positive. Sadly this was not to be…… the afternoon sandwiches were brought over. There were three different choices of sandwich, each cut into a finger. Processed cheese, tuna and cheap ham and a lettuce leaf. There were three of each. Why you would give guests an odd number of sandwiches beats me. We had to cut them in half to share them equally. The cakes were minuscule and non remarkable. The piece de resistance were the two shortie biscuits. The scone was nice though! The restaurant was tired, tatty and dirty. Tables chipped, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, filthy glass roof and the dirtiest light fittings ever. The waitress was pleasant enough but we definitely will not be returning. This is the most disappointing afternoon tea.

Absolutely awful. Afternoon tea for 2 people, 9 very small finger sandwiches with the cheapest fillings, cheap ham and lettuce, tuna, cheese and tomato (more tomato than cheese). Cakes were so bad they were inedible. Tea and coffee were in single sachets with individual milk portions, and came with a pot of water. No ambiance. Staff did not wear a mask initially and leant over us when placing pot of water on the table. Hotel is set in large grounds and looks lovely from the outside, however inside needs decorating and cleaning. Thick layers of dust and cobwebs on the chandeliers, and outside space overgrown. I would not recommend this hotel!!!

Just arrived this afternoon. Not impressed. Arrived at reception. Given our key but no information on meal times. Where the restaurant is. Key didn’t work. Had to go back to reception to get the key reprogrammed. On entering the room. Noticed drawers were broken. Maintenance man not on site til Monday. Dirty tissues in the tissue box. Room dirty and dated. Only one bath and hand towel for two people. Paper cups ! Watch this space for updates. We are here til Tuesday.

I usually check trip advisor but sadly on this occasion didn't. Dont these places care? We were using an afternoon tea voucher that was a gift. I get that hospitality will be struggling but was amazed to be given dry sad looking scones. When I mentioned this the waiter said "must be because you ate them later on"???. Milk was off, it was replaced at least. Cakes nice & soft. Sandwiches not very inspiring. We were given choice of tables in a line against a window in the extension. View was of tall trees couldn't see anything else. Dirty ledge, cobwebs & dirty glass roof. As hotel in countryside & looked good from outside would have been nice to have bit of a view. Reception lady asked was everything ok?, I thought where shall I start. Did mention about scones & she said they only came in yesterday, I would sack your supplier!. Oh well was a trip out & certainly different experience!. Wont bother again

The security staff at the gate said in broken English that there were no vacancies .... I couldn't go through the gate to get to the desk to book. I tried to book for a break in October using the internet but the booking sites showed no results. Luckily there are other hotels nearby. From appearances it seems it is housing young male migrants.

Stayed here 1 night after a wedding, place is beautiful from the outside, inside was lovely but tired needs a lick of paint and updating. Room was clean and bed comfortable. No spare pillow in room, only 1 cup for a double room and tv didn’t work I think due to batteries flat. I understand these things might seem trivial but these are basic things that should be checked in every room. Before anyone jumps on the band wagon I understand that things are a little different now with Covid and such but that’s no excuse for not checking simple tasks.
