The Douglas occupies a magnificent position overlooking the promenade in Brodick. It is quite expensive to get a room with a sea view but, having taken the plunge and booked, we had no regrets at all. The room had the wow factor we were looking for and made the stay that bit more special. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the evening meals. The food and the service were both high quality.

Stayed at the Douglas this week on a quick visit to Arran. Very well kept hotel, pleasant staff, comfortable room. The food was superb, my wife is a vegan and there was choice and great quality for her too. Everything was great and we will definitely be back.

We spent 3 nights here having lost 1 night thanks to storm Kathryn and cancelled ferries. We were grateful for the flexible booking as we were able to cancel in advance (48 hours notice needed) and didn’t need to pay for a room we were unable to get to. Location is great and you can see the ferry port from the hotel. We booked a sea view anticipating we may have to shelter indoors and a lovely view would help. All the team were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our breakfast with good buffet selection and cooked too. Our room was generous with good storage and the biggest bathroom I think we have ever had as it was an accessible room. The shower was over the bath and wasn’t up to the same standard as the rest of the room as it had low pressure. Conditioner wasn’t provided so if you need it take some. We ate in the bistro one night and the bar another. Food was of a really good standard and we preferred the bar’s a**osphere. Excellent drink selection available. I think in the summer as our room overlooked the bar patio area there could be some noise. I could hear music on our first night but it didn’t go on too late. Just something to consider if you are a light sleeper. We would certainly use this hotel again and were pleased with our choice.

I paid £160 B&B in room 108. The room was to the side with a brick wall for a view. Outside the large window, which you cannot open is a corrugated roof of another part of the building. It rained throughout the night and it felt like i was sleeping in a bus shelter due to the noise. The room has been tastlefully decorated however tired. The large bathroom has a very small shower head and no pressure whatsoever which was very dissapointing as the bath sloped which meant an uncomfortable shower. Room 108 is on the 1st floor and you can hear people in the rooms beside and above, tv's, snoring, very creaky floors above. Ive been coming to Arran 3/4 times a year and this is the 1st at the Douglas. I wont stay again as its overpriced. For the money, stay at the Auchrannie, its got so much more to offer.

Too be treated like 2nd class citizens, This is the place to go, so full of very ignorant staff ,today we were moved from our seats during our lunch to make way for a larger party, not once but twice, perhaps a few courses in manners wouldn't go wrong, due to the ferries being delayed and cancelled this year has had a reaction to customers, if the owner or managent reply too this don't waste your time ,as its true.

Superb dinner and service in a lovely, busy a**osphere. Can not highly recommend enough. Compliments to the wonderful chef, you do an amazing job and are very much appreciated. There was a lively feel to the place which enhanced our experience and endorses the fact that this is a popular place to dine.

We saw the weather forecast for the day we had booked was very bad and phoned the hotel to see if we could change our booking to the day before which had a great forecast. The receptionist was delighted to do this for us without any problem and so we were lucky enough to stay at the Douglas Hotel in perfect weather. The receptionist was so friendly and welcoming and indeed all staff made us feel at home in this beautiful hotel. Everything about our stay was perfect. The location is wonderful and the shore walk up to Brodick Castle Gardens is so scenic and peaceful.

Had dinner in the Bistro with my friend, lovely food with a great a**osphere and friendly staff. We then had a few drinks in the bar area, it wasn’t as busy as we’d expected on a Friday night but a lovely friendly place. And we came back for lunch ( in the bar) the next day! Lunch was also very good 😀.

This hotel is outstanding. Incredibly comfortable with excellent staff who take pride in their superb customer care and service. My friend and I were greeted upon arrival by a lovely lady who checked us in and showed us where the lifts were and what room we were in. The room was impeccably arranged and in fantastic order. Our meal in the hotel bistro was delicious. We had the cauliflower and sweet potato curry, and the steak stroganoff. Both were perfectly cooked and left us wanting more (even though we were both stuffed!). Ally, our wonderful waiter, tempted us with a dessert where I had the trio of ice cream and my friend enjoyed some vegan ice cream - both Arran Dairy ice cream, no less! An outstanding stay - we will both be back!
