We have had several meals at the Kings Head . The inn is a lovey old building situated in a beautiful village .The quality every time has been extremely high and excellent value for money .The Sunday roast for example is faultless .High standard choice of meats and a good choice of fresh vegetables all very well cooked and presented at a very reasonable price.

The management and staff are very friendly and you get a warm welcome. Rooms are very clean and tidy. Meals are delightful. There is a warm fire. Breakfast is very well prepared. You'll have a great experience here. I can't fault it. Neil Mcnaught.

The Tapas night last night was fantastic. The service was great. The food was truly amazing. we expected small portion, so we ordered plenty, and we were not disappointed the quality of the food was excellent. The chefs truly did research and treated all those who were able to eat their last night to remember.

We went for a meal on a Saturday afternoon and were greeted by a lovely lady and a very pleasant young man who escorted us to a table by the fire. I ordered the beef dish from a quite limited Chris**as menu and my husband had the chicken, ham and leek pie. The beef was lovely and very tender, although not entirely sure if the mash potato was reconstituted. My husband’s pie arrived and it was quite small. He said that the pastry was really nice but when he cut into it there were no more than 5 small pieces of meat. It was so disappointing as everything tasted really nice. We paid just short of £50 for a pint of soda and orange, half of cider and then the two meals. Portion sizes were quite small but to be fair although we both cleared our plates, which is unusual for me, we were quite satisfied. The pub, ambience and staff were lovely but if I were them I would change supplier of the pies. For £19 I would have expected home made pie with a lot more filling.

We had intended to stay just 2 nights so as to attend a family funeral. The day we were intending to leave the Snow Bomb hit Cumbria and within hours a sprinkling of snow had turned into inches of snow and our car was not going to go any where. Lorna, Darren and Jackie were quite unfazed by the new circumstances and readily booked us in again. As the day wore on and the snow got deeper, people started arriving on foot having had to abandon their cars. Despite the chef not being able to get to Broughton that day Darren did a sterling job of feeding everyone that evening with not much more than the basic ingredients of a full English Breakfast. His Cheese Omelettes were wonderful! By evenings end there more people staying than there were bedrooms so a dining room was repurposed. The Sunday brought a bit more snow, now over a foot deep, but now the thaw was starting. Snow ploughs and salters were beginning to make headway and now the chef was able to walk into work and that Lunchtime he was able to provide wonderful food for those of still in the hotel. That evening, Haley, the barmaid was able to relieve Lorna of her bar duties and a very convivial evening was spent by all. In short, this is a great hotel and the people are truly wonderful, it is well worth another visit!

We got stranded in a freak snow storm near Broughton in Furness yesterday. We realised it was either find. Somewhere to stay or stay in the car for the rest of the day and night. The latter been the least favourable. We found Broughton on a map and proceeded to head, walking hoping to find a pub or accommodation and a shop. Once we arrived fairly tired we stumbled across the Old Kings Head only to find the last room had been taken. Nevertheless we stayed and ordered drinks, we got to know others that had also been stranded and soon the drinks started flowing. A little later on the land lady informed us that we were able to stay the night downstairs and very kindly made us a fry up (the chef had gone home due to the weather so the landlord cooked it for us)! The setting was idillic in the snow with two great roaring wood fires, a warm a**osphere, and very dog friendly(they even fed our dog Wllow, gave her water and made her feel very welcome). I rate this hotel 5out 5 for everything but the rooms, only due to not staying in one so don’t know what they’re like. Thank you so much for your kindness and amazing hospitality, will definitely recommend to anyone. Daz and Sam, Barnsley, South Yorks

Came for Sunday dinner, had the roast beef, food was lovely and selection of vegetable very good. Roast was the closest I’ve had to a home cooked fish out. Good selection of wine. Very friendly staff. Would definitely return.
