This was our 4th visit to Northgate House and was wonderful as usual. The location in the abbey grounds makes for such a peaceful stay and it's convenient for Dartmoor as well as for the coast. The hotel staff are friendly and eager to help and the restaurant food for our evening meal and breakfast was cooked to perfection and enjoyed in a bright airy room benefitting from the late evening sun and the morning sun next day. We booked the deluxe/superior double room which is very spacious and being in the older part of the building has some character as well as a balcony. Although we were informed (a week or so before arrival) that there would be scaffolding outside due to exterior painting, we were still able to access the balcony from our room and sit on the adjacent roof terrace - where we had a view of the abbey unobscured by the scaffolding. So we didn't feel we'd lost out at all by booking the more expensive room. We loved everything about our stay and look forward to visiting again.

I am just back from my third visit to Northgate House in 2 years. I and my friend have difficulty walking far nowadays. I also have trouble with stairs/steps. I no longer want to drive too far from my home in Somerset either. Add to all that I lived in Buckfastleigh growing up and until I married, so the location alone is ideal for me and my friends. Add to that the high quality and cleanliness of the accommodation, the lovely food, and the wonderful staff who cannot do too much to make ones stay the best it can be. I cannot wait to find the opportunity to go back for another stay.

Fantastic service quiet location comfy beds and a great location to the abbey will return again and again bar was a joy to be in for a quiet drink location the the abbey and the river was fantastic history of the abbey was a great experience and the on site shops were great to pick up some local wine and gifts

What a wonderful find! We started our Devon road trip here and loved it so much we booked another night to end our road trip. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food (breakfast and evening meal) was delicious. Everything is made from scratch. Our rooms were comfortable both nights that we stayed and we loved being so near to beautiful Buckfast Abbey. This was very good value for money and we would love to return again.

A little gem in deepest Devon. North gate house, in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey is a great place to stay. Beautiful large bedrooms with en-suites, some with assessibility. Walk in showers. Most nights you can book dinner, plus there is pizza restaurant as well. Large breakfast to get your day started. the grounds and gardens of Buckfast are just through the gate. It’s an amazing place to stay and the Abbey is calming and restful.

Thank you to all the staff, from house keeping, it's spotlessly clean, to the catering staff, the food is excellent, to all the staff we met they were all very friendly and polite. The hotel is in a beautiful setting, would recommend anyone to stay here, we will definitely be back.

I can say that this is the best hotel, Northgate House, that I have ever stayed in. I am disabled and was able to have a room specifically for the disabled and perfect for my needs. The quality of the food was 10 out of 10. The staff went out of their way to help me and I have now recommended that my friends also visit.
