I had the best deep tissue massage and facial at craxton wood’s spa. Been to a few others but would highly recommend Debbie and Emily for their amazing service. Thank you. The spa offers numerous steam room experiences with mood showers and foot jacuzzi

I had a call the morning I was going to say they were having staffing issues ,, due to this I felt my treatment (file & polish) was very rushed (meant be a 25min treatment,, was 10mins) & not to a good standard, the girl was lovely but obviously very busy

I have just stayed at the Croxton Wood Hotel and would like to thank Jerome and all the team for looking after me, the service has been first class. working nights at Elsmere, I was late for breakfast on a few occasions but Jerome was very accommodating and sorted everything out. Thank you so much !

The hotel was average, the sofa bed had blanket which wasnt enough coz it was cold even though the heater was on. The room had a kettle with cups but no tea or coffee although it said for milk call reception. There was no body wash in the bath had to get some from the wash basin! Dont think they check and top up after a customer leaves. Only thing we enjoyed was the swimming pool and spa facilities.

Booked an overnight stay with 2 treatments, room was ok,dated but clean the beds were very comfy. We got a complimentary drink as there was problems with the key cards not working so had to get someone to get us into our room through our whole visit. Food was ok nothing special, the service was very slow and it was nearly an hour before we got our food. Both our first treatment were excellent but the file and polish was not worth having it wasn't even a gel polish, mine was ok but my friends was not good. The ladies who did our treatments were very good. Don't think I'd rush to return though have been to better spas for a cheaper price

Worse meal and service I’ve experienced in a long time. Where to begin. Food took forever and a day to come (we didn’t complain about this as we appreciated we were a table of 8). When it did come most was inedible, including the kids. Lasagne was served burnt, and when we mentioned it to the waitress the response was a very defensive “I didn’t look at it before bringing it to you.” Not a “oh im sorry about that, I will get it sorted for you.” But a “It’s not my fault eye roll!!!”A replacement was brought within a couple of minutes so we can only assume the burnt bits were taken off !!! Although they forgot to replace the cremated garlic bread accompaniment. My main didn’t turn up, so when I asked a member of staff about this I was told “you’ll have to find a waitress”. Ermm ….. no why don’t you find a waitress for me as a representative of the hotel. I order a fairly expensive bottle of white wine from the menu that 30 minutes later still hadn’t arrived. What I asked about it I was told “its coming, the barman is busy and doing the best he can!!!” when it eventually came ……… half way thru the tasteless meal might I add ……. It was at room temperature. When I spoke to the waitress about this, again I was greeted by a defensive attitude of it being in the cellar and not the fridge (note :- this was a different member of staff to who brought the food so clearly poor service is a cultural thing). The remaining wine and 2 poured glasses were swiftly removed by the member of staff, again with no apology. When we asked to speak to the manager about these issues, guess what ?! They refused to see us. There is no wonder staff are treating customer in this manner when you have a manager that refuses to deal with awkward situations and leaves it to them. Poor poor leadership. I can tolerate the food being bad, but that coupled with appalling service is another level. We did get items taken off the bill after some back and forth as they were inedible, and we didn’t risk eating breakfast here and ventured to a place nearby which was nice (given we were all starving from the night before). If anyone is reading this from the MacDonald chain …….. sack the manager before this place goes pop. They are clearly out of their depth and have a major culture issue. If you are thinking of coming here for a spa and subsequent meal ……… DON’T !!!!!!

I was very much looking forward to a relaxing stay at Craxton Wood prior to attending the funeral of a relative. A 4star hotel should provide a bit of luxury and delicious meals. I was so disappointed with my stay. This hotel, part of the Macdonald Group is tired, in desperate need of a lot of money, lacks staff training and it appears lacking in management and direction. My room was large and my bed comfortable but the bathroom wasn’t clean, the shower contained black mould and it flooded the whole room. The bedroom was chilly and could only be warmed by an electric storage heater. My welcome at Reception was less than warm and my dining experience, poor. I felt sorry for the staff who appeared to be disguising chaos in the kitchen. I waited 30 minutes for a simple Caesar salad that didn’t contain anchovies and then a further 30 minutes for a sticky toffee pudding which was passable. The following morning’s cooked breakfast was definitely not worth £24. Since returning home I’ve contacted Macdonald Hotels to discuss my experience and although the Operations Manager has offered to discuss my stay and arranged three separate telephone calls none have actually happened. So, following a week since my stay I’m leaving this review. Another guest left a similar comment a week ago. My advice; avoid this hotel. There are many other excellent hotels and pubs with room on the Wirral. Save your money and book into a hotel near Heswall and eat at one of these or indeed, book a table at one of the many restaurants in Heswall. Macdonald Hotels are resting on their laurels and need to up their game significantly. Do not book the Craxton Wood!

Good hotel to explore the Wirral from or use the park and rail into Liverpool.
