Fabulous good and great service . Very welcoming and stunning views. Comfortable clean rooms and good value for money. Would recommend. Very pleased we discovered this little gem and well worth traveling to. Worth visiting the nearby castle also.

This Hotel was a recommendation on my sister’s wedding invitation as being the local in the area. The hotel was lovely but it was the manager, Ian who made the trip so memorable. Ian was so accommodating from start to finish for all of our family & friends. His smile could light up any room and his service was exceptional. I don’t review often but I had to mention this brilliant man!

Great location, brilliant fresh food, very helpful staff. We had a comfortable loch side room. Several of these have accessible ramps to the door though the spa baths wouldn’t be so easy to use for those less mobile. Ian looked after us well and made sure we could have dinner when we turned up at short notice. We invited family to join us for meals and all agreed the Chef was doing a fantastic job. This is a historic building and the open fire in the bar area is a delight to come into when there’s a nip in the air. 15 minutes to Inveraray so if you are there and looking for a good meal, we recommend you book in the Cairndow.

A most disappointing visit, in which our experience did not reflect the promise of the website: Accommodation Shower room - there was a hole in the ceiling above the shower which appeared to have had an unsuccessful repair - looked grubby and unkempt - significant amount of black mould both inside and around the shower cubicle - live slug/snail crawling inside shower on Day 2 of visit -from hole in ceiling or drain possibly? Staff member removed it and apologised but no suggestion of cleaning the shower tray for me - a protective cover on the hinge mechanism of the WC lid was missing and the area looked grubby Bedroom - A wall socket housed inside the wardrobe was loose from the wall. When attaching the small oil-filled radiator needed to heat the room, the electrical wire had to be moved until a connection was made, suggesting a loose connection either in the heater, the socket or both. -Neither the heater nor the kettle plug had PAT test stickers affixed Food - The online menu had attracted us to visit the hotel. There was no indication, even when booking the meal, that the online menu would would not be available. That which was offered was very limited and so we were very disappointed having had expectations of ’something special'. Breakfast was mediocre, both in choice offered and presentation. Bar - The Men’s washroom single stall door did not close without considerable force. The WC cistern flush buttons were missing. However, pushing a protruding spigot enabled the WC to be suitably flushed Location Beautiful

Guy outside finished his fag quickly and locked the door as we parked although advertised as open. Not even the decency to speak to us. Please change the website if closed and save people a wasted trip! We won't trouble him again that's for sure.

I enjoy staying in traditional inns because you get a real sense of place and history, so this was right up my street. Friendly and accommodating manager, tasty food, a comfortable room and a fantastic location right on the loch. The village has a couple of points of interest and is the start of a well maintained walk around the top of the loch.

Very disappointed. I understand that this hotel plays on its old character history, but there is a difference between oldy worldly charm and rundown grubbiness. Ripped mattress protector, pealing wall paper, radiator in the bathroom with broken control, fitted radiator in the room didn’t seem to work the first night. We found a small electric heater in the wardrobe which had a FAILED PAT electrical test dated May 2023, we stayed in October 2023. No much of cleanliness about the room, dust everywhere, empty bottle and hankies under the bed, dirty windows with spiderwebs, mould in the bathroom, missing bulb in the bathroom mirror light. Food was nice in the restaurant, but I would not recommend to anybody to stay there. Unkept, overpriced and way below any standards.

Wonderful views from a spacious room, which felt more like a motel. Early concerns that it would be too cold to sleep in were abated when the electric heating kicked in but it was an inauspicious start. The buildings are very dated and the food menu published on the website was deceiving. Most of the choices were unavailable and we had to settle for a chicken dish with frozen veg. My first bite of the turnip was ice cold but the remainder was hot. The choice of wine by the glass was limited but the whisky menu was excellent. The whole experience (rooms were very expensive considering the state of the place and the disappointing menu) would have been a huge disappointment but was saved by the two other guests in the dining area, which resulted in a pleasant evening. Aside from the views, we definitely would not return.
