From the minute you walk into the hotel, you get that "paradise " feeling. Never before have we stayed in a hotel where every member of staff from cleaners and gardeners to supervisors and managers always greet you with a smile and a cheery hello. The rooms are basic along with the Zilwa villager theme, but are spotlessly clean and more than adequate in features. The main buffet restaurant has a wonderful varied choice of food that caters for all tastes, and the al la carte restaurants offer choices of Indian, Thai, and Mauritius food. I would highly recommend the Indian! The bar staff and waiters work tirelessly and are always happy in their duties. Special mention to Niraj, Satyam,Akish,Ebenezer and Paul for ensuring that we were always fully hydrated! The bbq on the hotels little island is a lovely added feature that is accessed by a raft, or can be walked to at low tide. If you want days out, then there is always a deal to be had with the local taxis outside the hotel. But, after all the positives at the hotel, there was one issue that fell short of the perfection elsewhere. The hotel offer their own glass bottom boat and snorkelling boat free of charge. We decided to go snorkelling one day, and the sea was a little choppy. There were only 4 guests on the boat and two staff. There was no safety brief at all, and when we arrived on the reef site we were told to just jump in over the side of the boat. There was no information given or a guide in the water. When I jumped in my mask became loose and while I tried to reach the side of the boat, I was unable to due to the swell. My wife had to shout at the staff to get them to assist me. So, unless you are an extremely strong swimmer and regular snorkeling user, I would advise not to go on this trip for your own safety. That is my only little rant as what was otherwise the perfect holiday in paradise.
