We spent three nights at the Hotel Cannero. It is a beautiful house located directly on the shore of Lake Maggiore. The small town of Cannero with its lakeside promenade and old houses and narrow, steep alleyways is very idyllic. The Hotel Cannero takes guests back to the Belle Epoque in a pleasant way. Tastefully and dignifiedly renovated while preserving the old building structure and decorated in a slightly old-fashioned way, you immediately feel very comfortable here. Our superior room faced the lake and had a small balcony that was just big enough for two chairs and a small table and invited you to sit and relax in the spring sun. The bedroom was big enough and furnished in a style that matched the "antique" (but not particularly high-quality) furniture. However, we found the covers to be very inappropriate for the otherwise high standard of this hotel: very worn brown wool blankets instead of cozy duvets gave more of a youth hostel feel. Quite large bathroom with lots of marble, but an outdated, narrow shower cubicle. Everything is clean and well maintained. The breakfast buffet, which is really excellent by Italian standards, is served in the stylish dining room on the ground floor with a beautiful view of the lake. We also had dinner there twice and were very impressed by the high quality of the food. The staff are all very friendly, well-trained and actively approachable towards guests, both at reception and in the restaurant. German is spoken, which is not surprising considering the large number of guests from the north.
