It was really good. hotel is so clean ! and staffs are very kind

nice hotel, near to university. Luckily got it and then it was full.

I first stayed here more than 12 years ago, the property has been completely renovated to a much higher standard

First the positives: brilliant location and very old building. Some of the staff are really lovely and capable. The night porter on Saturday 11/05/24 was fantastic as were the breakfast staff on 12/05/24 Now the rest… On arriving, we were informed that we were on the first floor and on further enquiry there was no lift (“because it IS an old building!” Yes: I can see that and yet somehow they managed to get around similar problems with a building designed for people defecting out of windows with no problem… but there we go). In future it’s a good idea to OFFER support with luggage to save your guests the embarrassment of having to ask for it. Then there is the room… my Father used to say that the daftest ideas in the world start with the phrase “Oh wouldn’t it be nice if…” I imagine having a claw-foot bath in the Luxury room seemed like a good idea at the time, but with little surface space to put anything down, and an iron and fan that couldn’t be plugged in other than by the bedside, better use could have been made of the limited space. The man on breakfast seemed perpetually bemused, yet the young women (students? Possibly even sixth formers) who staffed it on Sunday (12/05/24) were polite and gave impeccable service. Finally, the toiletries… nice enough, but with no ingredient list on them they are impossible - even potentially dangerous - for anyone with allergies to use. I’ve often wondered what it was like to stop here and now I know. As the title of this review puts it: Style over Substance.

The Falstaff is a joy to stay at. After leaving the busy streets of Canterbury this Inn is a sanctuary of calm. Rooms splendid clean and high spec. Staff are a delight Justin was efficient and no request was to small. The bar is inviting as is the dining area

Beautiful room, lovely breakfast and comfortable bed. The only downside was the shower, we found it too fierce. We found it to be very central in Canterbury near everything we wanted to see. Close to the main areas. Would definitely recommend!

At first I was allocated room 30. This was a large light room with plenty of space, although it does overlook the high street. However the WIFI in the room was non-existent which I needed as this was a business trip. The staff were very helpful and re-allocated me to room 10. Room 10 had an excellent WIFI connection and a better desk and chair than room 30 so that I was able to work in the evening and in the early morning. But room 10 is very small with very little floor space. If I had been staying longer it would not have been possible for me to do my regular exercise routine in the room. One of the other reviews mentions the glass shelf above the sink. The bathroom is tiny. The sink is small and the shelf is far too close to it. Meaning that wet shaving in the morning is something of a obstacle race between shaving and how much water goes on the floor. This should be easy to fix by moving the shelf as the other review has already suggested. For those on business trips needing WIFI room 10 would be better (so long as you do not suffer from claustrophobia), for those staying for pleasure room 30 would be preferable. Very good position in the centre of town. Pleasant friendly staff. Somewhere to park your car.
