the hotel itself is very stylish and modern; a mix of pop art furniture and fine marble; the breakfast area and bar is also very modern and nice; the rooms are old fashioned - not dirty but would need a bit refurbishment to come up to the expectations you have entering the hotel; down to the south of Italy it is helpful to speak some words in Italian - not all staff is able to understand your english; breakfast was a bit weird: everything was prepared by the waiters which was maybe due to corona but was not quite helpful (speed and thickness of the cutted slices); coffee was made on request (very good); pool area was very nice and tidy; beach is reachable only by shuttle (car provided by hotel for free); takes you within 10 mins to the beach; beach towels can be borrowed at reception (3 E); in the surroundings there is nothing special so you need a car there, which can be parked for free in front of the hotel; problem: every day (!) there was a big wedding/event; sometimes of course with loud music/noise; the hotel is more a party location than a hotel to stay for a relaxing holiday; Amalfi coast is about 1 hour drive

We booked an Executive Double Room for 2 nights in this hotel. The hotel is connected to Osteria Arbustico a Michelin star restaurant. During check-in we were told that the pool was closed for that day. There was a wedding venue the whole day and we found out that the guests occupied every space available so there was no room for the other guests that were staying at the hotel. No possibility to eat, to drink nothing. Our room was more that of a Motel. It was separated from the hotel in a block with other rooms. We had a view from our terras on the parking, garbage, airco units and clean wash hanging outside. The room was small and had a small dated shower. The second day we went to the pool. To our surprise we found broken glass, cigarettes, olives, cheese and whatever you can think of left behind by the beloved guests of the day before. During the day this was cleaned up as well as possible because this was too much for the regular cleaning staff. In the afternoon we were confronted with a new event in the hotel namely a communion with a lunch in the restaurant and bar. We decided to go to the beach to avoid the hotel again. When I asked the manager if they had given me the right room he reacted anoyed. I tried again by showing him a picture of my view and he confirmed that this is what I paid for. I didn't react anymore because I realized that this person had no clue on how to handle disappointed guests and he had absolutely no idea what the word service stands for. We didn't ask for anything special or a discount or whatever but not being taken serious was the main irritation that we had. Our advice: please check in advance if the hotel has no events and due to the manager we say that this is hotel is 2 star worthy.

Il Best Western La Conchiglia è un hotel posizionato al centro del l'abitato di Palinuro in posizione sopraelevata da cui si gode di un panorama splendido sulla baia. Ha molti punti positivi tra cui la possibilità di scegliere la tipologia di soggiorno, noi abbiamo scelta la camera con balcone e vista panoramica, la pulizia è eccellente, il confort è notevole, la biancheria è di prima scelta, la climatizzazione è adeguata e non manca nulla come TV satellitare, frigo bar, WI FI, ascensore, infissi a chiusura ermetica, il parcheggio è adeguato alle esigenze ed illuminato al passaggio delle persone (da tenere in conto che l'abitato di Palinuro è stracolmo di abitazioni). Il personale è estremamente cortese e gentile e i cuscini sono di morbidezza variabile. Vi sono anche alcuni punti negativi e secondo la opinione personale penalizzano un poco l'hotel, la doccia è minimale, come struttura ed ampiezza (vetri e montanti di pessima plastica indegni di un hotel a tale livello), manca la possibilità nel bagno di poter poggiare un qualsivoglia oggetto, il letto, con ottimi materassi, matrimoniale era formato da due materassi uniti, in tal caso si sente la mancanza del topper, al nostro arrivo con pochissime presenze l'acqua era tiepida (29 settembre) nei giorni successivi, con più presenze, l'acqua era calda. Da ultimo in hotel viene dichiarata una distanza dalla spiaggia più vicina (ficocella) di circa 400 metri ma non si accenna minimamente a lla pendenza delle scali e del tracciato che è veramente impegnativo. Colazione molto buona fornita di tutto dal dolce al salato, ottime le mini sfogliatine e le crostate di ogni gusto. Da ultimo il costo, un poco elevato visto il periodo a cavallo tra fine settembre e i primi di ottobre.

Positives 1. Parking for the apartments is right next to the apartments. 2. There is a decent sized swimming pool that we had access to next to the apartment so we didn’t need to use the bigger pool that was used for weddings. 4. The pool we used was a 1 minute walk from the apartment and wasn’t busy. 5. The bedroom was of a good size. 6. The kitchenette was functional. 7. It was possible to wash our baby in the bathroom, although tight the shower was big enough to put our travel inflatable baby bath in the base. 8. Beach was very nice as long as you sat in the 3rd row of chairs it was free. 9. The smell of eucalyptus trees on the way to the beach was nice. 10. The sea was a 10 minute walk, even with the baby and the heat it was easy to do and didn’t use the shuttle bus once. 11. Local shops are limited but good enough. (Didn’t find any baby formula though) 12. The staff were as accommodating with questions as my no Italian and their broken English allowed. 13. They let us settle our bill the night before we left as we were leaving early and they said there would only be a skeleton staff. 14. Using toll roads it’s only about 1 and half hours from Naples airport. (Don’t leave “avoid tolls” on like I did initially as that drive wasn’t fun and took and extra hour) 15. Toll was €2.10, I used cards and this worked every time although the transaction on a Sunday didn’t appear on my statement for 2 days, all other days the toll came off the card immediately. 16. We used the big pool in the photos once. It was nice and the baby liked it on a day when there weren’t any weddings. 17. Paestum really was very close and fully worth a visit. 18. Pompeii was only about an hour away with a €2.10 toll each way. 19. Decent safe in the bedroom, could fit my 13” laptop. 20. Hair dryer in bathroom was ok. Negatives 1. The large pool was closed for weddings between 12:30 and 15:30 and not cleaning as we had been told. 2. We weren’t disrupted by the weddings but they were every day from what a guest staying in the main hotel said. 3. No kettle in the apartment. 4. No iron in the apartment. 5. Massive sink in a small bathroom was a bit odd. 6. The shower, glass door runner always jammed and had clearly been “repaired” at some point. The kitchen tap and the shower water are connected so don’t use them both at the same time or the temperature gets very severely affected. 7. The apartment only had a single free bed linen change which did not include a room clean. 8. There was a €40 charge to clean the room which included towels and bed linen change 9. The AC only went down to 21° 10. The large AC unit outside between the apartments and the car park was very noisy and could be heard in the apartment at night. 11. Reception staff had better English than I have Italian, not really a bad point but a bit difficult as I have no Italian. I used google translate a lot. 12. Breakfast was very limited. Just arrived home from this hotel. As a disabled guest (wheelchair user) the hotel isn't accessible to reception. There is a wooden ramp that takes you through a side door but you cannot get to the reception desk. If you are alone and in a wheelchair you cannot reach the buzzer and the ramp is not always down and he door is locked However once in, the lifts take you everywhere you need to go. On the face of it the hotel is beautiful. But. We asked for an accessible room. We were allocated two rooms the first 432 which wasn't accessible. But was small and had a great view. The second across the corridor was accessible. No view. When you opened the window you were faced with a pitch black space with what I think was a water tank. The room smelt. The shower room was not very good. The seat was rusted and stuck at an angle so you couldn't sit and it forced you out of the shower tray. Rust fell each time you showered into the tray. The shower head had a mind of its own as did the control. The rooms on the 4th floor are old and in desperate need of attention. Missing fittings dirty/ stained lamp shades and some lights didn't work. No extractor fan The upper rooms were beautiful. Most common areas were beautiful but in the restaurant lots of stains and damage on the ceiling. Breakfast was good but the hot food was cold. The staff exemplary. There was no sign of a pool. But a great gym but a little snug and if you ate tall you don't have much head room next to the window on the equipment. We went down in the lift to the beach. This was awful. An open construction site which has been the same since 2017 is a UK health and safety nightmare. A table saw rusting away. Power cables strewn across the ground nails sticking up and a peice of wood laid across the blade. No access to the beach safely and none for me due to the above. Be careful if you buy drinks in the bar. Very expensive €15 for gin and tonic. €4.50 for a cup of tea. Had several occasions to return tea due to fishy smell and taste. Maintenance hadn't repaired it during our stay. But another hot water tap was fine. The hotel is next to the port which is busy and not ideal if you don't sleep well.

Very disappointed. Booked 4 nights after checking on line that everything was still open. We arrived by train and everything looked okay. The first room we were taken to would not unlock after several minutes and feeling rather nervous we were given another room. We then headed to the pool as the weather was nice the pool water fountains weren't working and it did not look very well maintained but we ventured in. Pool bar was closed as was the hotel bar. We then discovered that the restaurant was also closed. Nowhere on the hotels website did it give this information, we had no transport so did the 30 minute walk to the nearest restaurant. Next day after been woken early by yapping dog the weather wasn't good, looked at the indoor pool but again not fully working or maintained and not heated. I complained to reception about the lack of facilities available if we spent time in the hotel, ie no lunch or dinner available and was told they could do some toast at lunch time if I requested it at reception. We took the free bikes out instead and that was the only good thing about this hotel. We had booked 4 nights, something I would not have done if I had known the restaurant was closed. I asked to check out early because of the lack of facilities available to us and was informed it was hotel policy not to refund the un used nights. I understand this in certain circumstances but they did not provide us with the facilities they were advertising. They also advise no pets but that didn't apply to the managers yapping dog that woke us at 7am each morning. We checked out after 2 nights and no they did not refund us for the u used nights. Make sure before you book this hotel everything is open. If not you definitely need a car. I would not recommend this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Duca Marigliano Boutique Hotel in Paestum, Italy in March 2023. We went to Paestum to visit the Greek Ruins - and this hotel was walking distance. Even though we were only there one night, the service was wonderful. The hotel is charming and the food is delicious. We were not there during high tourist season - so we were one of 3 couples at the hotel for the one night we were there. The hotel restaurant was quiet when we went in the later evening - but we were welcomed an catered to. We only ordered dessert (as we were very full from our late lunch at San Salvator La Dispensa - yum), but they brought out samples of other desserts for free. In the morning, we were welcomed to a breakfast that was included in the night stay fee. The food was absolutely amazing. Lots of traditional foods and the best Earl Grey Tea - with steamed milk - that I had during my stay in Italy. Huge shout out to Pietro, who served us. Pietro went above and beyond at dinner and breakfast. As it was not tourist season, not everything in the hotel was open (sauna, outside seating areas) - I can imagine that the grounds are beautiful in the late spring, summer months. We would definitely return to this hotel.
