Campanile Dunkerque Est - Armbouts Cappel

We picked this hotel on the way to Germany to break up our journey. Having already travelled several hours we arrived to a somewhat frosty welcome by the chap on reception. He gave us our key and sent on on our way, to our room. I'm not sure if he had been having a bad day but he certainly didn't appear happy in his role. While I appreciated this is not listed as a 5 star hotel we were somewhat disappointed, the pull out bed for our son was basically a mattress that's its stored under the main bed, nothing more so he basically slept on the floor which in turn blocked the bathroom door off (the room is very small for a family, too small) The main bed and mattress needing replacing as was worn out and basically had a huge sump in the middle. As we were only staying one night we made do and headed to the onsite restaurant, only to be told it was closed. This was far form ideal as the whole point in staying here was that we wouldn't need to head back out again. Couple of positives, the blinds are very good and block all light and the breakfast was also good but sadly these don't make up for the tired room and the lack of a onsite restaurant.

We have just spent 5 nights in north & east France in 5 different hotels, all of ‘apparently’ similar quality and the comparison has been quite interesting. This Campanile was the cheapest of the 5. It provided basic but clean accommodation making it very good value. The room here was basic but clean and some parts of bathroom seemed newly refitted, with very hot water and an excellent magnifying mirror for makeup. The bed linen was beautiful with firm mattresses which we like for cool sleeping. It was very dark with exterior blackout blinds. The location was very convenient near A25 but also surprisingly quiet with no road noise and other guests were silent after 10pm. There was a simple continental buffet breakfast, though no hot food, but it was adequate.

Ideal if you have travelled a long distance before or after a channel crossing. Rooms clean and tidy, staff friendly and helpful. Only downside was the restaurant was closed according the the male on reception. As luck would have it we walked across the road and dined at the Best Western restaurant opposite. On our return to the Campanile we noted people were dining in the restaurant....so not sure what was going on there!!

Great basic hotel for a quick pit stop from Calais! Hotel staff were really friendly, I came late cause my ferry was cancelled and they happily checked me in. Room was basic but comfortable. No complaints. Free parking is great too.

Got there at 1am as the ferry was late. Perfect for our needs. Clean, comfortable and quiet. Warm welcome, efficient checkin, nice breakfast. Great value. Near to ferry and attractions. Very impressed with the lovely handwritten welcome note in our room.

Stayed here with family on route to a ferry crossing and honestly couldn’t fault it for the price. Both rooms on the ground floor, one front and one back and they were both roomy, clean and comfortable. Much better than the next door Premiere classe that we usually use. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and shall do on my next trips
