I knew in advance that there would be construction in various areas of the resort (and the island!) because of the hurricane, and I knew that there were no restaurants at the resort, only food trucks. I just think that, for the price, it was still all a bit disappointing. When you arrive, there is a check in before a security gate. I thought this was more of a resort, but it's really a kind of condo association as best I can tell. We were given a "map" that was a blurry photograph of a seashore with some illegible scribbles on it. It was late at night, very dark, and we ended up driving around for a while. My husband, driving the golf cart we rented, finally found it. We stayed on the bay side, where we had a beautiful view of the birds hanging out at the docks and in the trees. Again, despite my best efforts to understand what I was booking, I was disappointed. These were high rise condo/apartment buildings, not "cabanas." The third floor condo was in decent shape, nothing too luxurious. It did have a nice screened in porch. The elevator didn't work, which between that and trying to find the place after checking in late at night, made our arrival not optimal. We had a toddler and all of the equipment, and it was tough getting unloaded and settled with no elevator. The next morning we were awakened between 6 and 6:30 by an electric drill in our ceiling. A man had begun working on the condo above. I called to complain and the person on duty said, "Oh, they aren't supposed to start that early." He was literally ripping up flooring and drilling into our ceiling. Evidently, many of the condos are privately owned and the resort has no control over these. Something else that wasn't made clear at booking. I knew there would be construction; we live in Hawaii where hotels undergo renovation all of the time. But hotels never book you in the rooms above, below or beside the construction. We were gone until nap time, about 1, and he was still drilling when we returned. We enjoyed the beach, where we saw an eagle's nest with two eagles in it. We enjoyed the main resort pool complex, where the children's pool has a lovely sloping edge that is great for toddlers. The adult pools that overlook the ocean were partially closed. We also enjoyed walking the marina, where manatees hung out with the yachts ( a bit disconcerting when you walk down the dock and the people having coffee on their deck disappear as if you are intruding). But all in all, I feel that the "resort" was misrepresented and overpriced. It's a beautiful, beautiful location, but I don't think I would go there again.
