Just outside the town of Carmel, on the edge of Highway 1, the Highway Inn opened in 1936! A bit unique, clean and tidy!

Location is good since it is located near entrance to big Sur. It is a motel so do not expect much but it is still considered clean for a motel. The guy who attended us for our check-in is very helpful.. No complimentary water in room and no kettle for boiling hot water (which I think it's very important during the winter). Coffee, tea and hot water are available at check in office.

The cottages are so cozy all in a nice location along the Carmel river. We stayed in a duplex cottage & it had a huge soaking tub, and fireplace! Great location and beautiful grounds to walk around during our stay! We brought our dog and the cottage had a small gated yard for him! The Innkeeper Michael was very friendly and accommodating as we wanted to look at some of the other cottages to plan our next visit!

Booked this cute little glamping tent tiny “house” during early April. While the initial temperatures outside and inside were brisk when we checked-in, the heating wall unit kicked in nicely and the tent warmed up beautifully. The room felt like a chic upscale hotel room but the canvas walls and ceiling. Added bonus was that Unit 69 came with a partially covered outdoor shower in addition to the regular indoor shower and bathroom. Room comes with basic coffee machine, tea, plates, mini fridge, microwave, and utensils. Keep in mind the shower takes awhile to heat up so give it several minutes. The whole area contains cute little other units that are the typical tiny homes with lush foliage and gardens.

I've stayed in a pet friendly cabin here as a teen, and I came back now for a long weekend. I enjoyed the glamping cabin but do note that the walls being thinner is no joke! The floor was very cold, so I had socks on all the time. We mostly used the cabin to just relax though, so we'd be warm in bed anyway. I enjoyed the large shower and bed. When returning home, my Queen bed felt small.

Stayed in the main building. Room was great, cozy and simple. Staff was super friendy and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs after we got trapped in Big Sur due to the Rocky Creek road closure. The outside are that all the rooms have is very nice.

Adorable!! Would definitely stay again, great location- I did a morning run down to wedding rock and it was beautiful! The cottages are adorable, extremely pet and family friendly. The staff was welcoming and accommodating but not overly in your businesses. Quick drive to the town center for shops and dining.
