A big clean room, a little bit old fashion. Barman staff wasn’t as friendly as other members of the hotel but everybody was polite. Impressive sitting rooms. Swimming pool with showers and spa included in regular rate. Recommendedz

This was a gift from our son of an overnight stay with breakfast using a voucher. The hotel is olde grand fabulous paintings, decor and lights. Inside is a vast space and a living museum which doesn’t bother us that perhaps some areas will need some TLC in due course. Staff were very helpful on arrival and throughout our stay. Our room was clean roomy and comfortable as was the bed. The hotel is set in a beautiful setting. I used the pool and spa which were of good size and clean before our meal. On this occasion we only had a bar meal due to having a late lunch. Wine was reasonably priced food was absolutely fine. Snooker table and games for use after dinner if you wished but we choose an evening walk in the lovely weather. The walk was amazing in the woods and around the lakes on such a warm evening. Staff were very friendly and accommodating our breakfast was good next day. It was a lovely stay and we would come back again.

We’ve just returned from our 30th family stay . We love the place, however it’s pretty obvious that the new owners (“Bespoke” Hotels) have made some changes which are not enhancing the experience. I’m hopefully this will change however. The golf course was in probably the worst condition I have seen for 20 odd years . One example : The 3rd and 4th holse didn’t have a fairway as it hadn’t been cut for weeks, at least half the greens were like the surface of the moon and the tees were similarly uncared for . The exterior of the conservatory is a flaking mess and obviously hasn’t been prioritised. Hopefully this will improve ! The food used to be the highlight of the stay . You know you are on shaky ground when you are asked to decide at breakfast what you want that evening (I’ve never experienced that before !!) . We chatted to the chief .. it’s obvious they can’t attract and retain the people they need (I will leave it at that ). Lemon tart delivered an a thick dry and tasteless base, Bass over cooked with a bland sauce, sticky toffee that was so bad we couldn’t finish … I genuinely fear for this hotel and as I said we’ve loved it for 30 years . You can’t cut green staff and kitchen staff and expect the customer experience to not be affected. The owners appear to be focussed on cutting the bottom line rather than trying to grow the top line … but I sincerely hope they get the balance . Can we at least start with gutting some grass !!

Lovely stay for an early birthday gift from the other half - the grounds are beautiful and the inside lovely, staff were great especially Barry and mark who worked dinner and breakfast. Food was amazing - best breakfast we have had !! Lovely pool too

We went for lunch in the conservatory. Lovely space. Menu was ok, if somewhat traditional. It be even better if they thought about dietary requirements such as gluten free. Imagine not being able to order gluten free chips! This should be a destination place for lunch, the room and grounds are beautiful.

Hotels in old grand buildings such as this take a lot of investment to maintain to a high standard. Cally palace is set in a lovely area, surrounded by a golf course and peaceful grounds. The reception rooms are fabulous and the setting suggests luxury beyond measure but the reality is a little lacking. We booked a 2 night stay as part of our touring holiday of Scotland. The first night included an evening meal in their restaurant. It was ok but portion sizes were small and the quality not a patch on evening meals we had in other locations. Breakfast was ok but only just. There seemed to be a lack of coordination during breakfast service so things were easily missed - for example I ordered a poached egg the second morning which never materialised. Our room was spacious and clean. But the carpet was threadbare in several places, the furniture was nice but had clearly seen better days, and the bathroom very dated. The internet was not working during our stay -it was a pity we weren’t told this on check in as it would have saved us several minutes trying to work out what the problem was. The staff were generally friendly and were doing their best though, and we enjoyed a game of snooker on their super table on a rainy morning.

As regular visitors to Cally, we were excited to see that a new manager, Lucy had been appointed. It was really great to see Lucy visible across the hotel during our stay, a rare occurrence these days and even looking after us in the restaurant. All the other staff were lovely and couldn't do more to help us. It is great to see Cally Palace with a bit of life about it again. The food has had a big improvement too, with a separate bar and restaurant menu offering lots of choice for longer stays. The Golf Course is a cracker too but has suffered the effects of the rather wet start to the season. We both can't wait to visit again in June.

This was one of the most friendliest hotels we have ever visited. The staff bent over backwards to assist. It is also in an area which has much to offer even for non golfers. Picturesque walks and amenities there are many of!!! The restaurant reeks of olde world charm where the staff engage with you and are eager to please. The bedrooms are spacious and the swimming pool /jacuzzi is great for adults and children.
