I like this place as an alternative to the cookie-cutter motel experience I had been having on my recent swing around Victoria. In fact, I was quite pleased with myself for choosing this place for my recent two night stay. The place does have a lovely historical ambience, and fits in nicely with the overall ambience of Castlemaine. It is in a quiet yet very convenient location, and so a good night's sleep was very easily achieved (no highway noise at all!). A lovely old building, but mod cons like air con, ensuite bathroom, fridges, kettles, free wi fi etc. Parking was easy; both on the street or behind the lodge itself. I was in a twin room, but did feel that maybe the bed could do with updating (first world problem!) A larger waste bin would be nice. The above two issues though are not deal-breakers; and this place will be my first choice when I next swing through Castlemaine.
