My experience with Hotel de Koka was extremely disappointing and disheartening. During a stressful time, I accidentally booked a reservation for July 28 instead of June 28. When I realized the mistake, I was hoping the hotel would understand and help me adjust the date. Instead, they were reluctant and seemed clueless on how to handle the situation. I was forced to pay for an additional night in a room that was full of mold and rot. The smell was terrible and even the linens were wet due to humidity. There were also sexual intercourse sounds coming through walls. It was a totally unsafe hotel. Given the late hour and our baby already asleep, I had no choice but to accept the situation. It felt like they took advantage of our vulnerability. The staff at the reception initially promised that the manager would be understanding, but the next day, both the manager and another manager-like staff member were cold and unsympathetic. They blamed me entirely for the mistake and refused to offer any assistance. Now, I am stuck with a reservation for a room I no longer need. This whole experience has left me feeling incredibly frustrated and sad. I expected much better customer service and compassion, especially under these circumstances. This has been a very upsetting experience.

The staff were excellent, really friendly place, and the room was just what I needed - clean, quiet, and a kettle. Great location - right beside the Old Bazaar and a short walk from the central square.

We booked the hotel room based on reading people's reviews and positive photos on various booking websites. We were quite disappointed with the hotel. We were booked onto floor 4 which was still in the process of being built or recently built as the hallway on this floor still had unfinished work to tiling, doors, walls etc and the lift frame on floor 4 still had the plastic covering still on. The floor that we were given had no safe, as we were told that the rooms were still being fitted with a safe but that we could leave our passports at the reception. Due to this we had to carry both our passports and large amounts ofoney with us throughout our stay, which we were uncomfortable with. We had constant issues in the morning with no hot water coming from either the basin tap or the shower to that we had to have this investigated. The shower water was very very slow to drain away and had to stop showering until the water drained away and restart. There were so much hair on the drain cover which the cleaner should be clearing away. There was a foul sewage smell in the bathroom such that we had to constantly spray perfume. The room was dusty and not cleaned daily, could not walk on bare feet. Only provided with new towels each day after requesting from the cleaner. We were just shocked with all the issues when the floor 5 was newly built and already the rooms looked dated. The room had no door pass, but had a door smart card reader both on the door and inside the room. I assume due to not being wired to the system, we were given a door key, which is so 1980s. The breakfast was non existent with cornflakes, bread, bottled orange drink and coffee. Oh and no milk provided only yogurt to go with your cornflakes. Never seen breakfast so badic that it took us literally 5 minutes to finish our break fast. The only 2 positives: Location between the old town and the new city. The young lady at the reception (red hair) believe her name was Kristina ? She was amazing and an asset to the hotel. She was so helpful in anything we asked from booking tours to general help and assistance. She needs a pay rise for the positives she brings to the hotel. A real asset.

This hotel is like two different hotels in one building. One of them has really nice rooms and the other doesn't! I stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a group tour. The first room I was allocated, 214, stank of cigarette smoke when I opened the door. Every wall and every surface in the room had dubious stains on it and there was no way I was going to stay there. I went back down to reception and told them. The receptionist and the manager were at the desk and told me that there was no smoking allowed in the rooms, but they would see if they could give me a different room. I was then given a key for a room on the 4th floor. I opened the door to this room and could not believe it was the same hotel; very nicely furnished and a good first impression, until I noticed that the beds looked like they'd been slept in and when I went into the bathroom found dirty towels and bathmat and rubbish! The room had not been cleaned from the previous guests! I went back to reception to ask them to clean the room and was told that all of the housekeeping staff had left (it was around 4.50 pm, not the middle of the night) so it couldn't be cleaned until the following day! They were seriously suggesting that I sleep in someone else's dirty room! Of course, I refused this and was then told that the only other option was another room on the 2nd floor. I went up to this room and it didn't smell and appeared cleaner than the first one, so I grudgingly accepted it. There were still some dubious marks on the walls, a strange smell in the bathroom and a shower drain that would have cut my feet to ribbons had I stood on it, but it was the best option I had. At this point, I discovered that there were no sheets! The bed had pillowcases, a mattress protector and a duvet (it was around 40C outside), but no sheets. I commented to our group about this and it seemed that most rooms were the same but another traveller had found a linen closet and so we took what we thought were sheets, but actually were duvet covers which we used as sheets. Despite being offered rooms on floors 2 and 4, the lift goes to 1, 3 and 5 (I don't think there even is a 5th floor). Breakfast is poor quality and served in a room that feels like a school canteen. The hotel is in a great location and the reception staff are friendly, but they are the only positives.

Nice Hotel. Right outside the Old Bazar. Location is perfect. Too many Restaurants nearby. Masjid Murat Pasha is also in walking distance. Staff is very helpful and kind. Breakfast covers all the basic items. Walking distance to many places in Skopje.
