Dog friendly experience. Wonderful staff nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful exercise area - acres alongside the River Taw plus onlead gardens. More beautiful walks locally eg Heywood Motte and Bailey, Eggesford Forest. Superb food. Lovely bar and lounge where the locals eat and drink. Everywhere was spotless. Extra touches included clean, large towel inside the entrance and a mat to dry the paws, boot scraper and brush outside, AND All the staff smiled all the time and made us feel welcome

This hotel doesn't need another rave review, but it really is excellent. From the kind and professional staff, the well-stocked bar and the fine dining, it is well worth the visit. Most people staying at the hotel had dogs, including us, but we didn't encounter any issues with noise or badly behaved dogs. We booked through Pets Pyjamas on a winter deal, it's worth looking around for an offer, especially outside of peak season. The breakfast was standard hot and cold food buffet in a bright and airy room. There are woods nearby for a walk and if you're up for a drive of about an hour, you can visit the north and south Devon coasts for beach walks. There is a train station just up the road with local services and connections to Exeter. Restaurant: If you're in the area and just want to go for a lovely dinner, it has a big carpark and some grounds to walk in. Definitely book ahead as it gets busy with hotel guests. I can't believe we forgot to take photos of some of our beautifully presented meals and desserts.

I believe some before us have suggested the decor looking tired...so what. Others may have criticised the menu selection. All I can say in response is...really! What the Fox and Hounds might lack in any area it far exceeds in how they deliver a fantastic experience, from the heart. We've travelled extensively and been privileged to experience the very best of service all delivered by numbers and to be frank quite 'plastic'. We stayed for 10 nights. The staff are authentic, wonderful, and so helpful. To mention a few... Alex, Tom, and Lindsey. The restaurant team, including Eliza, Nell, and Ruby. Housekeeping for looking after our room and keeping it clean and tidy, which is not easy when you consider we had three pooches with us. Last but not least, Matt and Helen, you and your team made us feel so welcome. If you want to relax, unburden yourself from life's stress, and want your beloved 4-legged family members with you or simply want some downtime all to yourselves... this is the place to go! Thank you all so much.

A lovely dog friendly venue. Room 19 was spacious with a lovely patio. Tasty breakfast and the evening meal in the restaurant was divine. Storm Isobel meant it was wet and chilly so we could not explore all the grounds.

I went to the hotel for a meal as this was a recommendation by a friend. On arival for our table we were greeted by a friendly face and asked if we would like to sit by the fire to have a drink prior to our meal (a lovely touch) we sat and enjoyed our drinks and our order was taken. We sat by the fire and our amouse bouche arrived, a real predinner treat a devon blue cheese tartlet with chorizo jam ... amazing!! We were then taken to our table for our starters the 'new' menu dishes a hogs pudding and black pudding combo with apple .. chef ... top work !! The other starter was an artichoke terrine which was again top drawer. There was a nice rest between our starter and main course which was perfect to have a drink and relax before the next delight. We both ordered the new veal dish and again what a dish ... wow!! We were both very full by the end of our meal and had no room for dessert unfortunately but we did manage to squeeze in a coffee by the fire. Cannot reccomend this hotel enough the food, staff and atmosphere all amazing. The dogs in the restaurant make it a special environment theres not many hotels where they look after their customers and dogs to such a high standard. We are coming back for the valentines taster menu which cannot come soon enough. ***** 5 star food and 5 star service keep up the good work guys

Nice looking buildings in a secluded location, check in time of 3pm is the latest we have ever come across, room was OK but pretty basic & could do with some updating. Don't think it's really value for money though & you need to be aware that you can't take drinks out of your £35 per person dinner allowance, even though they appear on the dining bill! Food was quite nice but there are very few choices on the menu, limited if you don't like fish. Breakfast was serve yourself from a heated buffet table, not my favourite! Dire lukewarm coffee. Sorry but for the money I think there are better value places to stay.

The hotel was really nice, and our superior room was large (Room 01), clean and comfortable. The staff were attentive and friendly. Dinner was fine, and good value on the deal we had, but cooked breakfast wasn’t great. It was a buffet, but on a heated trolley, luke warm, heat-lamp dried (hard) bacon, and barely warm beans. This was frustrating, as there were only maybe 10 people at breakfast in the time we were there. It would have been simple to take orders and provide cooked to order hot fresh full English, which would have scored at least an extra star on our review. It was strange having dogs in the restaurant, but only as a novelty, rather than a problem. They were generally well behaved. We enjoyed our stay.

We have just come away from the Fox and Hounds after a 3 night stay. We paid a little extra for the suite but it was so worth it! Beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and spacious - the perfect home from home. We were surprised at the attention to detail, a full kitchen with every utensil needed and even leaving some little doggy biscuits to welcome the furry guest. The grounds are well maintained and staff more than friendly towards dogs. We paid with dining included, at £35 pp per night for dinner upfront. Unfortunately, we did not feel this is value for money. With soggy burgers, cold breakfast and at times inattentive staff, the “service” was lacking. More worryingly, seafood came out consistently barely warm or cold, making it inedible. One manager left us with no drinks for over an hour, meaning we had to share a single glass of water. Food is not value for money and not as premium as advertised. When checking out we expressed this disappointment to the hotel, providing an opportunity to rectify further - instead we had to pay £10 for additional drinks. Rather disappointingly, we were promised that the first meal would wiped, only now we have left the hotel we find these so call “promises” are empty and only being refunded 20% of what we were promised (still far below what we would want to pay). Further still, I was told no one was available, but my partner was put straight through to a manager showing clear avoidance of the issue. Whilst the room was nice, the food and post-stay service has been abysmal and unfortunately completely overshadowed what few benefits the hotel has. We would like to thank the head of Housekeeping and interior designers who gave us something to praise about our stay.
