We spent a very comfortable night in a double room with ensuite. The building is old and full of character, with creative uses of space. The bed was clean and we slept extremely well. The best part was the friendly welcome. Our hostess could not have been more helpful and kind. She made sure we understood the access codes and asked about our trip. Surprisingly great location, a short walk to Burwood/Victoria Rds and fabulous Chinese restaurants. Burwood Park also close by. I thought being near the road would be noisy, but it was quiet and we slept undisturbed. It’s not fancy, but that didn’t matter at all. If you want fancy, you’ll be paying a lot more.
Except that the wifi is too slow, there is no microwave, the bathroom sink is too small, and washing is not too convenient, the other is OK. It was a high-quality hotel that could be booked at that time.
We had a dinner nearby, and lucked in this hotel. Not sure it is a new building or completely refurbished, but everything bright and shiny. Underground car park entrance from rear lane way. Can’t reserve, but called ahead and was assured low residency. Park in the first one you see, hard to turn around if you go to the bottom. Room was good, as expected. Marble flooring was cold, bring thick socks. $10 for pre-booked breakfast for two is great value - gives a limited bit very good menu and a hot drink each. Friday night ground floor restaurant was busy and loud music. Not a quiet lounge. Didn’t try the rooftop bar. Room x01 was that the back of the hotel, with unexpected views from Chatswood, North Sydney, the Bridge, and the City.

Room 20 Family ensuite rm - hotel is really convenient to Train Station and eat street in Strafield. Plenty of dinning options close by. Checkin was easy. Room was very basic. Appeared clean but very tired. Decor old (not historic old), ensuite pretty run down. TV didn’t work and old aircon was effective but a little noisy. Beds were truely awful. We suspect very old and cheap (could feel the springs) and extremely uncomfortable. Some noise from the hotel and bottle shop, but manageable. Won’t opt to stay here again.
I have been an Executive and while I am not saying that being one necessarily means one should be treated with a greater privilege than others, it is a style which often appears to be applied by those hosting them. When an accommodation describes itself therefore as “Executive Accommodation”, there can be a reasonable expectation that the accommodation is just that little better than average. Not so with regards to this place. Upon arrival, the receptionist appears to have been away from the counter and one gained access to the door only when another guest was able to open the front door with a key you get after you have registered. Upon entering, the receptionist appeared to be engaged in other duties which from her point of view to be more pressing than registering a new guest. All done with a singular request for a signature (once the appropriate registration form was found) and the handing over of the keys with directions to go out the door and turn right. Going out the door meant going back onto the street, which was most confusing. Eventually she led me to a side door where, somewhere my as yet unstated room number existed. It was only by guessing that the very small number engraved on one of two keys gave any indication which room this might be. There was no need for the key initially however since when the room was finally located (which requires walking through a fitness room), the door was widely (wedged) open anyway. The room is spacious enough in a rectangular way and contains a small table with hard plastic chairs and a flat pack wardrobe and bedside cabinets. It also has two comfortable (although only one used) double beds. Power outlets were along one wall hidden by the beds, making access to connect a laptop difficult as requiring a shifting of the table to the beds. There was no guest compendium which meant having to locate the receptionist yet again to acquire the Wi-Fi password, and once a connection was made, it was very sporadic. The bathroom was of an adequate size with a small shower cubicle. No Face cloths were provided, and the bath towels were so thin that it could have passed for a tea towel. Provided toiletries were provided in inexpensive bulk type containers. Very tacky. It also pays to read the fine print regarding car parking available. They have only four spaces available (at cost) which need to be pre-booked. Otherwise, from Monday to Friday, you are restricted to two hours parking on the side of the road between 8am and 6pm. On the positive side, it is located very close to the local city railway and a reasonable sized shopping centre. A place I would be embarrassed to put an Executive, and certainly not a place I shall be returning to on my frequent trips to Sydney.
I stayed at this hotel with my wife as part of our honeymoon. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner: An elderly gentleman by the name of Andrew, He was welcoming and generous: When we were shown to our room, he then offered us a bigger room. He even offered us a lift to Darling Harbour the following morning and, upon request, arranged a TV for our room. The place itself is rich in history. I always love staying in historical buildings and this one is one of the best. It has the sense of age & place and it there is something to be said to be staying at a place with such a historical feel behind it. The rooms are well furnished and the beds we used were indeed comfortable. Indeed a classy place to stay
The service was great, the pillows and bed were the comfiest, the meal down at the dining room was a 4/5 only because Im use to a certain parmy not one with eggplant on it and it wasnt a tomatoey sauce it was different, the room needed a mini fridge though as we couldn't keep anything cold. Other then those couple of things it was a great stay.
Positives - Easily accessible bus stop right out front - ID and card details to check in so no annoying bond held - EXCEPTIONAL customer service!! The lady at check in was so warm and welcoming and made me feel like a valued guest which is so refreshing as having stayed in many budget price point accommodations over the years great customer service is definitely not the norm so I thank them greatly for that. - Excellent price point paid $85 for the night - Great standard of cleaning - Quiet - Microwave available in common area Negatives - The plastic stool was very short and uncomfortable. - No tea bags or anything in the room, says all removed due to COVID prevention but doesn’t really make sense considering everything e.g. soap bars, bed sheets, are all going to be handled and put in the room so how individually packaged coffee/tea is higher risk I don’t understand.
We recently stayed here with friends. Great comfortable rooms. Shared bathrooms but clean and tidy. Good beer garden. Staff we very friendly and accommodating. Good value for money. Lounge areas near rooms with tea and coffee facilities. We will be back
