My two kids and I were visiting Sydney to catch up with friends for a few days and just needed a place to crash in the evenings. I used to be a local so knew the Erko would be the perfect home base for our plans - close to transport, groceries, shopping, cafes, and sushi! The 3/4-person room was spacious and clean, the shared bathrooms in good condition (although you had to run the shower for a good 4min before the hot water kicked in! Once the temperature was good it remained steady but I cringed at the waste of water at the outset), and the shared kitchen had great facilities. Although it was noisy when the pub was open, the sound remained unobtrusively in the background (like someone having a party next door) and disappeared altogether by midnight. We were very happy with our experience overall (my kids really want to come back sometime!) especially relative to the price. The only things I would recommend they improve is to get a hot water system installed closer to the bathrooms and see if they can reserve some customer parking in the council carpark next door - I managed to snag one of the two unrestricted parking spots right outside the door on our second day but it was pretty stressful having to move the car every two hours until then. It would also be great to get provide reverse-cycle aircon and secure wifi but those aren't deal-breakers given that we had enough bedding to stay cozy and the council provides free wifi coverage in the area. If you're just looking for a well situated crash pad while visiting Sydney I highly recommend the Erko. Thanks again for a great stay.
My friend got me onto this place. A clean room, comfortable bed and a clean shared shower and toilet for a very reasonable price. Location is ideal for great food , shops and breweries. I'll definitely stay here again, would even bring the family to stay.
Now known as Summer House , New Town. Pleasant and helpful staff generally the occupants are under thirty most are very pleasant some are irresponsible and would be better housed in a pigsty. The accommodation varies most have shower rooms ours was clean and perfectly ok, about 20 minutes bus ride to the center of Sydney.

After reading so many bad reviews about The Urban – I decided to stay there to debunk some of these fussy reviews after being told by a friend that this hotel is after all, a great and very cool boutique hotel. I stayed at The Urban recently on a Saturday night to attend a gig on King Street. Firstly, the location of this hotel is convenient and fantastic! The Urban, situated on Enmore Road of course is close to the heart of King Street, and even better the venue I was going to was only a few blocks up, not to mention the hotel is surrounded by an array of shops, restaurants, and cafes along Enmore road too. So once you park - easy walking is your friend and access to everything that is cool in Newtown is there. For those expecting a 5-star Sheridan experience, this is not for you and maybe that is why you’ve written some of these harsh reviews. Yes, the rooms can be a little loud on and off from Saturday night revellers drunkenly walking past, however, I assume given the location you would be hard pressed to find any hotel that offers complete unbroken sleep – Newtown does not sleep after all, therefore, maybe Newtown is not for you. The Hotel advertises as boutique / Industrial style accommodation, and I believe that is what they offer. The Receptionist staff were friendly – the room was very clean with industrial touches (that’s the whole point of the cement roof, people!). The bed was fantastically comfortable (stayed in a King room), and I absolutely loved the artsy dystopian style greenery in the belly of the building that offered an obscure tranquillity while walking to your room. The Urban isn’t a break the bank cost for one night’s accommodation in this popular area of the Inner West. You will be paying for location, comfort, and cleanliness. I do agree however, the room should offer coffee pods to go with their coffee machine – just as The Urban’s amazing sister hotel The Collectionist did. All this and an 11am check out on a Sunday. We want to say thanks for having us “The Urban” and we will be back
Booked in for a couple of weekend visits en-route to visiting friends in Blue Mountains in March 2024, on advice of some friends who used to live in Sydney. Check in was easy and very friendly, walk into bar and they seem to know exactly why you are there (maybe it's the big travel bags huh?). We stayed int eh KING room, to give us some space, and loved the space we had for bags and hanging spaces in wardrobe. ON 2 stays, we got 2 different, but similar rooms, Rm 3 and Rm 4. Rm 3 is the corner on King Street/Logan Lane, with a great cross breeze when all 3 windows open, but a little more noisy as it faces the main road intersection. Room 4 just as spacious facing St Peters train station, maybe a little more quiet. Windows open in either room certainly showed how 'downtown' this place is, bustling road and train noise in both. Ear plugs supplied in both rooms. If you are noise sensitive, maybe another hotel a better choice, we didn't notice. Transport VERY simple with St Peters immediately over Lord Street only a few meters from the door. For 2 of us from SYD airport it was cheaper to UBER (AUD22) than use train (AUD19 each!).Offer a good discount for booking direct (as has become normal) in owner-operated hotels globally, so give them an email/call to beat any online rate.
Overall a good experience and a good hotel, if I need I would probably book another stay there as well, everything is brand new as the hotel opens not long ago. It’s is very quiet area and very convenient as there is a train station up the street, a metro station 5 min walk, supermarket and cafes next door. The bed was very comfortable and soft and so does the pillows, the shower was excellent and it had everything we needed. The rooms have no key card but a code so you don’t need to worry about losing it, and the staff were friendly. My only concerns were the windows, there was only one window in my room that barely opened as it was blocked by a wall so we could not get fresh air. The second thing was the hand and body wash, they were so stinky I had to go buy my own soap.
Great place to stay. Staff were friendly and only too happy to help when required for any issues that presented themselves. Highly recommend staying there, good location. Restaurant has well priced meals, can charge back to room. Also has room service. Undercover car park is a bit tight when in big 4wds, good height clearance.
Very close to Sydney University, convenient transportation and shopping, the hotel facilities are complete (with dryer/washing machine), clean, and there is cleaning service every day. We stayed for 9 days and were very comfortable and satisfied
According to the local Chinese, the Camperdown area is an area with low housing prices, and of course the level of safety is no different from other places. We stayed here for one night as we were going to the University of Sydney, which was right next door, and the price was right. It is worth reminding that this hotel requires 10 o'clock check out. The bed is very soft, the quilt is not a quilt cover, but two layers of sheets are folded, of course it is not unique to them, and it was also done in Cairns Hilton later.
