The second stop of our full country adventure brought us even deeper in the jungles of northern Guatemala to the immaculate Jungle Inn Tikal and its manager Rene. He keeps the place very well run and must not ever sleep because we never saw him not working. He is very proud of his position and the surrounding hotel complex is absolute proof. While at Tikal, we met a genuine diamond in the rough with Mr Cesar. An English speaking guide in the area where I wanted to understand the most was a Godsend. Not only did he speak English, but also Spanish and very good bits & pieces of pretty much every language out there. His speaking ability isn’t what makes him special though. While on his tour, he makes you feel that you are part of the Mayan community and you are living their history in real time through your own set of eyes. We were kept entertained by Mr Cesar’s story telling and excitement and love for his job for the whole tour. If anybody reading this decided on a trip to Tikal, do not settle for subpar. The Jaguar Tikal Inn AND Mr Cesar are the only way to go. Mr Cesar, I personally want to thank you for the wonderful time we experienced with you.

A very nice jungle hotel, built in 1956. The service was very good, and the English was good. The front desk gave us a free upgrade. The rooms are large and clean and there is free wifi in the lobby and pool. The hotel is in the ticket gate of Tikal Park, so the next morning, watching the sunrise and wearing the grove into the park, escaped one ticket and saved 20 knives per person. Dining can be done in the hotel. Breakfast is an example. A 50Q is equivalent to 7 knives. It also includes coffee and juice. For a hotel of this level, the cost is very good and the waiter is very friendly. It’s a different and enjoyable experience to enjoy the birds and flowers in the jungle.
