"I was surprised by how small the room was for a hot spring ryokan. With two suitcases, there was barely any room to walk. There was no Wi-Fi signal in the room, and the explanation given was that too many guests were using it simultaneously that night. Wi-Fi was only available in the hallway and lobby. Although the staff tried hard to resolve the issue, there was no solution, so we had to use our own mobile data (as an apology, they gave us a small souvenir when we checked out).
Additionally, the 'one night, two meals' package... At over ¥2200, it was ¥1200 more expensive than just the room, but both dinner and breakfast were very mediocre. Compared to a hot spring ryokan I stayed at previously on Shodoshima (which wasn't great either, but at least the food was refined), the meals here were far inferior. There were only three small slices of sashimi, and there were even fish scales on the fish. For ¥1200, two people could have had many better dining options outside.
The hot spring was decent, but nothing particularly impressive."
"The room is specious for keeping 2 medium sized suitcases. The location is convenient with a Lawson and a supermarket downstairs. Staff are friendly. The only imperfect thing is the public bath is so small which could allow 4-5 guests to use."
"Kotosankaku is located about a 5-minute walk from Kotohira Station and is very easy to find. The map shows that the post office is on the right, but it is actually blocked by buildings. There is a long straight road from the station. There is a souvenir shop in the basement of the hotel. It is a bit historical, but very comfortable and spacious. There are many cultural relics in the corridor for viewing, like a museum.
The room I stayed in was a Japanese-style room at the Zanshuikan (with an open-air bath), which can accommodate up to 4 people and only includes breakfast for 2 people. The room was generally large, with barely enough space for 4 beds. The whole room was very clean, and there were many breakfast options, but not all of them were delicious. The dinner set was average, a bit disappointing."
"The new hotel opened this year, self-check in, has the concept of a youth hotel, simple, clean, not luxurious, at 9 pm each person has a bowl of oolong noodles. The breakfast is very small, just two small breads, it seems too simple, this should have a lot of room for improvement."
"Superb service! As many says this is a hidden gem. Place is a quaint cosy Japanese style. Very new and comfortable. Note that check in is in the small shop selling pets items. Breakfast at Mori cafe is good. There is no onsen but u can have a good soak. Shared bathrooms but super clean! Definitely will recommend!"
"This hotel gave me a very big surprise, no matter the environment, service, facilities and food are super standard, the favorite is that its hot spring facilities are large and comfortable, there are flower hot springs, all-you-can-drink Japanese wine, are extraordinary experiences, very recommended!"

"The hotel is not far from the station and there is a hotel shuttle bus, which is very convenient. On the way from the station to the hotel, there is a shopping street, which is very easy to shop. Both breakfast and dinner are buffets. The public baths and private baths are both very good and highly recommended."
"The location is the best, but free parking, new renewed facilities, clean, modern and artistic sense, spacious rooms, mini-mini refrigerator, hair dryer, air conditioning. However, if you go alone, it may be scary to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night ㅋㅋ. Check in at a pretty cafe on the first floor, there is also an elevator"
"This 400-year-old onsen ryokan is a bit of a mixed bag. The location is definitely superb, and all drinks in the mini-bar are complimentary. Taking the path behind the ryokan to Konpira-san offers a unique and scenic experience, and the complimentary hiking poles at the entrance are a nice touch. However, I have to complain about the room facilities. The curtains were too sheer, making the entire room very bright in the morning. It seemed like they should have been blackout curtains, but they were faulty and couldn't be pulled down. After a long journey, I was hoping to get some good rest, but the bright curtains made it impossible – instead of waking up with the roosters, I woke up with the light! The food portions were very small, and there wasn't much variety. People with a big appetite would definitely not be full, and even those with a smaller appetite might struggle. Personally, I felt the freshness of the food was a bit lacking, and the kitchen's exhaust system was poor, as I could smell cooking fumes in the room."
"literally the best hostel i’ve ever been in my life!!! i do have to say it was pretty annoying to go up and down those steep stairs but the structure of the hostel make it seem a starred hotel rather than a hostel!!!"
