"The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the JR station, but dining options and convenience stores are a bit of a distance away. The room was quite compact; our double room didn't have enough space for large luggage. Furthermore, the provided upper bunk appeared somewhat dirty and was unusable. However, the hotel offers complimentary breakfast and lobby drinks, along with a small indoor hot spring, making it quite convenient for solo travelers."
"The hotel is conveniently located, about a 5-minute walk from Tottori Station and a 5-minute taxi ride to Hokkaido Kaiten Sushi. It boasts a nice onsen (hot spring) and was very clean. Complimentary disposable amenities were readily available for guests. On the downside, the breakfast was quite disappointing – very basic with limited variety, and many items weren't restocked, which certainly didn't justify its price. Also, be aware that if you're staying with a child in the same room, there's an additional charge of 3000 JPY per night, and breakfast for the child is extra."
"This is my second trip to Tottori and my second stay at this hotel. My first experience here was great, and I found that many aspects remained excellent this time. The staff's service attitude and attentiveness are still excellent. The hotel's location is superb, with a convenient store right across the street. The in-room air conditioning worked perfectly, and I especially appreciate that they paid attention to my personal request and assigned us our preferred corner room.
However, there were a few issues. Perhaps due to humidity, the duvet cover felt damp and had a noticeable musty smell, as if it had been air-dried indoors. Also, the electric kettle in the room wasn't working properly.
Separately, and while not a reflection on the hotel itself, I was quite bothered by the guests in room 802 across the hall. This family of three repeatedly left their trash bin outside their door, and sometimes even in front of other guests' rooms, showing a complete disregard for shared common areas and other people's comfort. I could hear them speaking Mandarin Chinese through the door. As a fellow countryman, I was truly embarrassed by their inconsiderate behavior."
"Comments on Marumo Onsen Hotel in Tottori, Japan
Located in Misasa Onsen Village, Tottori Prefecture, it is a traditional Japanese hot spring hotel with a long history. Misasa Onsen is famous for its ”radium hot springs”. The spring water is rich in radioactive elements (trace, safe), and the surrounding environment is quiet, suitable for tourists who want to experience the culture of deep mountain hot springs. The radium hot springs (weak radioactive springs) of Misasa Onsen are milky white and have unique therapeutic effects, especially suitable for relieving neuralgia, muscle soreness, etc.
There are indoor baths and open-air baths (separate baths for men and women), which can be reserved for some time periods. The open-air baths are surrounded by mountains and forests, with an excellent atmosphere. You can look up at the stars and take a bath at night.
Some room types come with private open-air baths (reservations are required in advance), suitable for couples or families.
Catering services: Dinner offers Tottori local specialties, including mountain delicacies and seafood, such as Tajima beef, mountain vegetables, etc., with exquisite presentation and sufficient portions.
For breakfast, Japanese set meals are recommended, and the jam made from the local specialty ”Twentieth Century Pear” with grilled fish is recommended.
If you are looking for ”historical sense + healing hot springs”, this is a good choice."
"My two nights here were a perfect escape. The room felt like a retreat into calm. I especially loved the private baths, quiet, serene, and easy to access.
What made the stay truly unforgettable was the kindness of the staff. From the afternoon tea with a Japanese sweet served in the room to their constant thoughtfulness and gentle smiles, every detail made me feel welcomed and cared for.
My stay here will remain one of the most memorable parts of my time in Japan."
"The hotel is relatively old, and the streets on both sides are very Japanese country style, very quiet and comfortable! The hotel is very close to the station, and there are many izakayas on both sides, each with its own characteristics. I ate at one, the sushi was very fresh, the wine was also very delicious, and there were many sashimi specialties of Hokuriku!"
"Second time I have stayed here. Great hotel, right beside the station. The hotel itself may seem a little outdated but it is very cozy. It is a 10 minute walk to a main street filled with restaurants and bars. About 5 minutes walk to the bus depot if you need to get to the sand dunes. Staff were very nice and polite and helpful"
"The hotel offers a variety of welcome drinks, and alcohol, soda and coffee are free until 9pm. The breakfast was rich and delicious. If the pillow in the room is not suitable, there are different pillows for you to choose from in the lobby. The room needs to be small but cost-effective. Parking at the hotel is 600 yen per night, and there is also a parking lot opposite."
"Except for the old facilities, everything else is good. The lady at the front desk is very polite and the restaurant is also very polite."
