Driving from Auckland is a bit far away, and walking on the mountain road at night is still a bit biased. The advantage is that it is very close to the firefly wormhole. At night, it is full of surprises. The hotel looked inconspicuous at night, small, but it was very warm during the day, the flowers were crowded, clean and tidy, and the owner was very amiable. The only dissatisfaction was that the book was rushed at that time, and I booked the No. 5 room with the preferential price at the front. When I saw it, I clearly wrote more than 500. When I paid, I showed that I wanted a credit card guarantee, and I agreed. However, I later found that I had to pay 140 New Zealand, which was more than 650, and the credit card deposit was not returned for a long time. It was very depressed. Room 5 is in the middle, the privacy is relatively poor, and it is the smallest. There are two small single beds in the room, plus a bathroom. I thought it was because of the special reason for the special price. Be careful.
A caravan camping hotel in New Zealand chose a separate room with a separate bathroom, which is very good. Cook and eat in the public kitchen restaurant. It's less than 5 minutes by car from the Glowworm Cave, which is very convenient. It will be far away from the supermarket. It is recommended to checkin at the hotel for purchasing.

The disadvantage is that the sound insulation is not good. We live on the first floor. The second floor can be heard clearly. It will be noisy and we can wear earplugs. A pair of old couples opened, very enthusiastic to introduce the surrounding area of the hotel. We went to the house on the eleventh to have heating. We thought it would be cold, but the actual heating was very good. It was very warm after a while. It is very close to the firefly hole, more than 20 minutes walk, and driving very fast. Waitomo has its own parking lot, which is very convenient.
We spent a very enjoyable couple of nights here in our campervan on our way down the north island. The site itself was quiet and secluded, with a number of animals nearby, including cows, sheep, pigs and a deer! The communal facilities are comprehensive and clean, with extensive and comfortable seating both inside and on the large verandah which surrounds the building. But what makes Juno Hall particularly special is Dave, the manager (and his dog, George), who has a quirky sense of humour and a heart of gold, often going above and beyond to help guests and is also a mine of information. Go visit - it is a gem!
The front desk lady was very nice. We had two rooms to choose from. There is a farm around, with goats, sheep, cows, ostriches, and a pig. One star is given to the pig, who was super friendly and purred as soon as we met. It is a good choice for those who want to see the caves but don't want to drive too far. The only drawback is that there are all kinds of insects in the room. You can only pretend to be blind as there are too many to kill.
The sanitation of the hotel is very general, and the cups used by the guests have not been washed. At that time, there was no public toilet and shower room at the time of booking, and there was a feeling of being cheated.
We stayed here one night before visiting the caves. Trevor was a great host and explained the property to us. He allowed us to use his kitchen to heat up our dinner that night. The setting is spectacular…..the property has amazing views over the land. There is a hot tub that was in front of our room (#5) which was clean and we used it. The only drawbacks are that the room was dated (but clean)…we appreciated the frig in the room and the breakfast could be better (he serves instant coffee 🤮)…some cut up fruit would be nice given he owns a fruit stand. Overall a nice place to stay.
Angus greeted us on arrival and showed us around the property to make sure we found everything. He was full of advice on the many activities in the area, we would have needed to stay longer to check everything out. He even showed us his fossil collection. I was sad to leave, he took such good care of us, and made us feel like family. Our family group rented all three accommodations for two nights. Angus supplied a crib cot in one of the cabins for our youngest. The glamping tent was perfect for the toddler, low beds, and rugs over the floor. The cabins were well equipped for preparing a light breakfast, which was supplied. Juice, yogurt, cold cereal, and toast with butter, marmalade and jelly. Freshly ground coffee in a press and hot chocolate powder. They even supplied marshmallows to toast over the outside firepit. The bathrooms for the cabins are located outside the cabins, but don't worry, you walk on the deck to get to them, and the way is covered. For the tent you do need to walk in the weather, but it includes a tub on the deck, great for soaking in the view. The kitchenette for the glamping tent is outside the tent with a bar area to watch the sunrise as you sip your coffee. Check out their Instagram for pictures of the views! The units are situated on top of a ridge so you get sunset and sunrise. We even had a view from the bathroom. The private glowworm grotto was a treat. And there were sheep and cattle in the fields.
We stayed here for 2 nights in January/February 2020 and chose this location based on Tripadvisor's comments. At first glance we thought we would be disappointed when we got on the bus to the hotel. It looked like a regular motel outside along the highway. But this place is much more than it looks. Our room was large with high ceilings and complete kitchenette overlooking the stream behind. The place was spotless and everything went well. Although we have a kitchen in the unit, there is still a guest kitchen for any room, and no one - with cooking utensils, ovens, stoves, microwaves, etc. There is a great coffee shop/cafe across the street - but it is closed at noon in the afternoon. Overall, it was a great stay and we would definitely stay here again if we were back in the area..

Ruakuri Cave
絮絮说当时-星星Ruakuli cave, only 10 minutes drive from the famous Waitomo cave, the underground adventure is an hour and a half walk, you can see the blue light fireflies up close, listen to the narrator about the cave legend (the whole English explanation). It is worth mentioning that some areas in the Ruakuli cave are allowed to take pictures (Waitomo is not allowed to take pictures!), so friends who like photography are worth a visit!
The Legendary Black Water Rafting
带带着檬宝去旅行If you can only do one activity in New Zealand, I would definitely recommend the Waitomo Caves Black Water Rafting. It starts at 7am and takes five hours! At the beginning, the guide will teach you rope rappelling techniques, and you will drift in the underground river in rubber tires. After passing through three underground waterfalls, the whole trip ends. Five hours, it flies by in a flash!
