A nice quick checkin and with a secure car park The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. I was impressed that tea, coffee, milk and a biscuit was left outside our door for our second night. We had dinner at the hotel for the first night. It was ok but portions were small. Breakfast the next morning was much better! And I thank the chef for serving fresh grilled tomatoes instead of tinned ones!! We chose this hotel as it was the closest to the city centre , it had a great view of the Minster and because it offered fantastic value for money. I would definitely recommend it!!

I was very impressed with this hotel, the staff are very helpful, polite and will do what they can for their guests. Hannah and Jasmine really are amazing. There is a good selection of food for breakfast, whilst they might not do a full English, they still have scrambled eggs, baked beans, sausage and Bacon. Evening meals are OK, there is no chef on-site but plenty of places to eat nearby. The rooms are nice, clean, well maintained and no noise to disrupt your sleep. Will definitely be back.

Perfect! My husband and I had our wedding in the Tennyson Suite at the Brackenborough in February 2024. We can not praise and recommend this venue enough. From our first visit to look at the Tennyson Suite, through to our big day, we had positive experiences. We worked closely with Katie before our big day and David on the day. Katie listened to all of our requests and details and she made them all happen. David was with us for the full day and he ensured everything ran smoothly. We both really did have a stress free day/night. The venue itself looked absolutely amazing- we used Fairytales for additional decorations. The food was beautiful both for the wedding meal and the buffet. We could not be happier with our wedding day/night and all of our family and friends have said they had the most amazing day/night. Looks dated from the outside and maybe a little inside, but for the price you can’t go wrong. I didn’t eat at the hotel, but the food I saw looked good. The room was big, clean and had a nice view over the golf course. Big well lit carpark.

I made a large booking here for a few of my employees. My employees are not fussy and generally will stay anywhere as long as its clean and they don't share rooms. We really do not mind a dated hotel, in fact, a lot of the time they are more homely and nice for a longer term stay. This is not the case with the Amethyst Hotel. This hotel is absolutely filthy. They are also in complete denial about the state of their rooms. I quote ”your expectation of a room for this price is too high” In fact I would not even stay in this hotel for free. One of our rooms had a crack that ran from the bathroom to the hallway, it was riddled with a dark mould, and it smelt absolutely awful. The lights in the hallway were non-operational, the room walls were stained, the carpets were also filthy like they had never been hoovered or cleaned since the hotel's inception. The worst part of all was the smell though. It had an odd musky smell which filled your nostrils as you entered and got caught in the back of your throat, you can tell there is a serious damp issue here so any older guest / guests with any possible lung issues should avoid this at all costs. They never offered us any alternative and I could not force my men to stay there, so I was forced to book additional last minute accommodation at a great expense and headache. I brought these issues up with the hotel staff Nil Jackson who proceeded to tell me we were all wrong and that there was ”no smell” even when their own caretaker inspected the rooms with my employees together and agreed. I am not sure if Nil Jackson personally owns part of this hotel but she was so defensive over these rooms that I cannot imagine what her home looks like. Any other hotel in the world would have simply apologised and offered an alternative which I would have been more than happy with, but instead they choose to fight us over our comments and that it is our own standard which are the problem. I'd highly recommend actually reading the reviews and listening because even I thought ”it couldnt be that bad”
