The Essex Golf and Country Club - I stayed here for work for two nights this week, when i first arrived it was very clear where i needed to go to check in as there is signs on the outside that say Hotel on one part of the building and the other one say reception/golf shop and there is another entrance for the Golf lounge/Suits, i obviously pulled up to the Hotel section but then had to walk down to reception in the rain to check in which for me isn't a problem but many others this would be, especially the elderly. The staff on the front desk were very friendly and helpful, both of them smiling and joking with me so a very nice greeting. I was then given my room key, when i walked down the corridor it seemed very modern and well decorated, however when i opened my door to my accessible room ( i am not disabled ) i was pretty taken back by how dated the room was and to be honest quite dirty, everywhere was dusty and the pots for tea and coffee were dirty, the bathroom is an accessible one but also not very clean and quite clearly hasn't been looked after, all the furniture in the room is old and marked and the TV is from the early 2000's, pretty disappointing considering this place looks amazing from the pictures. The windows are all damaged and fogged up so no view to the golf course. The gym is amazing, very well equipped and the pool area is nice too. Haven't eaten here so can't comment on the food but overall i would come back just feel they could do with spending a little on the rooms to bring them up to date and then this place would be a top notch facility.
