The Essex Golf and Country Club - I stayed here for work for two nights this week, when i first arrived it was very clear where i needed to go to check in as there is signs on the outside that say Hotel on one part of the building and the other one say reception/golf shop and there is another entrance for the Golf lounge/Suits, i obviously pulled up to the Hotel section but then had to walk down to reception in the rain to check in which for me isn't a problem but many others this would be, especially the elderly. The staff on the front desk were very friendly and helpful, both of them smiling and joking with me so a very nice greeting. I was then given my room key, when i walked down the corridor it seemed very modern and well decorated, however when i opened my door to my accessible room ( i am not disabled ) i was pretty taken back by how dated the room was and to be honest quite dirty, everywhere was dusty and the pots for tea and coffee were dirty, the bathroom is an accessible one but also not very clean and quite clearly hasn't been looked after, all the furniture in the room is old and marked and the TV is from the early 2000's, pretty disappointing considering this place looks amazing from the pictures. The windows are all damaged and fogged up so no view to the golf course. The gym is amazing, very well equipped and the pool area is nice too. Haven't eaten here so can't comment on the food but overall i would come back just feel they could do with spending a little on the rooms to bring them up to date and then this place would be a top notch facility.

A great place to stay for business or with friends and family, with excellent facilities for golf, tennis, fitness, spa and a beautiful pool.

Hi just like to say we stayed here for one night. The rooms were good, all you need ,also the reception at night great as they forgot to fill tea coffee so the kind man came to our room after I called and dropped the essentials off including biscuits! Fab response late at night. The food wasn't fantastic but filled a hole ! The staff are friendly always willing to help. Even though it's on a refurb we saw the funny side of going everywhere in our spa dressing gowns ! We booked aura spa with chloe and Sarah, absolutely 💯 great really friendly and professional. We had an awesome time here. Just a note if you need relaxing spa this is not so in the pool area as families are here too so maybe adult only if this is important to you. We loved it and my daughters too . ❤️

Modern refirbished room with iron and ironing board, which was useful. The bed was comfortable enough for a few nights and the bathroom was modern. The staff were pleasent and polite. However, the food was poor and the service was rather slow. I never used any of the facilities, such as the gym, so I could not comment on that.

We recently stayed in one of the lodges and had a lovely time. The facilities were very good and it had nice comfy beds. The hot tub was great! We played tennis and golf on site and it was good that you could use so many of the facilities. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful. Our only real negative was the bar/restaurant with poor quality over priced food and drink.

I’ve just returned home from 3 nights at this hotel. The first night wasn’t great, the hotel is used by lots of tradesmen and unfortunately I had one either side of me who both were up and about at 4am. One had their tv on so loud I could hear every word and the other was just making a racket. The rooms are mainly overlooking the car park so you will hear the traffic noise, doors slamming etc. The windows could do with replacing. I actually complained as I was travelling for work and had a heavy 4 days ahead of me, booked into the hotel. The lovely people on reception actually moved my room completely and I ended up in one of the suites. It was upstairs and looked like it had been upgraded compared to the room downstairs. All in all, the room upstairs was lovely and I had a peaceful further couple of nights. In future I would request a room upstairs out the back of the hotel

DO NOT STAY HERE. SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! We stayed in a Deluxe room as a post-wedding celebration. We only stayed here 2 HOURS then left. - The room was so dated and small - The mattress was so uncomfortable we had back pain after 30mins. - There were people smoking outside our bedroom window, so the room stank of cigarette smoke. - Their emergency out of hours phone is switched off (we rang it 2-3 times) - The walls were SO THIN that we could hear every.single.noise. that next door made. - The staff were rude with our complaint. - We were told the manager would call us back in 10 minutes after our complaint, which turned into 8 hours (I had to call back) Over £300 we spent to not even stay the night, even after we explained everything, they will not give us a refund. They never give refunds (as the receptionist heavily hinted to me) unless it’s a ‘good’ reason. They say on their reviews ‘they will take your comments on board.’ They don’t, they just want to grab your money. They have offered us a return stay. Why would we at how rude the staff are and terrible the rooms are? What a joke. SAVE YOURSELF THE MONEY. We stayed in the Premier inn up the road, better room, better service and a great nights sleep. DO NOT STAY HERE.
