The Westin Great Southern Columbus

Could clean the elevator doors more. They were in bad shape and you could tell the corners on the bathtub weren't ckeaned after the ladt occupant.

This hotel was terribly disappointing. It is a historic hotel with a lovely lobby. Rooms were shabby and noisy. To drown out our neighbors noise, we ran the air conditioning which sounded as if a helicopter were hovering in our room. Elevators were not always both operational at the same time and valet parking, while convenient, was a nightmare! Most of the front desk staff (unless you happened to get the front desk manager) was ill-informed but pretended to have all the answers. On three different occasions we were given wrong information, when a simple,”I’m not sure. Let me check for you” could have save us a lot of time. Not a pleasant stay at all. Several weeks after our stay, we received a parking ticket from the city of Columbus for both of the days were were there, despite the fact that the valets had parked our car and we had the valet charge on our bill, which of course we had paid upon departure. Three weeks of phone calls with Marriott to get it straightened out.

I can not say enough good things about Colin Pruitt who is the front desk manager at the hotel. He proactively and immediately solved an extremely stressful problem for me without any concern for reciprocation for which I am extremely grateful. That type of customer service and hospitality is becoming rarer to find these days but Colin and his staff are amazing. I will visit again purely because of my experience with the staff here.

This Westin was a name that I trusted to be best in class with comfort and service. I was let down. The valet attendants took ten additional minutes every time I requested my car. When I arrived back at the hotel, the valley attendants were always in the back room and never in sight. My room was outdated. The telephone did not work. The bathtub had a drainage issue where the water would not drain and the room service stopped at 11.

Knew the room would be small. But the shower was too small to shave my legs in it. That was disappointing.

So many things to say, but the main warning to share is that we were issued a parking ticket from the city of Columbus because of where the Westin valet parked our car - I've called the hotel twice (I don't think they even have a general manager right now so we keep getting desk people who are polite but promise to get back to us and never do). We called Marriott, were promised a response in 3-5 days, never got one, and then called and learned they just sent an email to the hotel manager which was never responded to so no one followed up. My last call to the Westin said the ticket was "taken care of" by the valet company, Laz Parking. Alas, it is not as it still appears as an open ticket when I log into the city parking payment site. This is a $97 parking ticket, so not something to put off. We travel frequently both within the US and internationally and love to stay at Marriott properties - my husband is a Platinum Elite member thanks to work travel. This is the worst Marriott property we've stayed at and the failure to address this parking issue and keep pushing it off is inexcusable. Pros: The lobby is pretty. Front desk staff was nice. Cons beside the parking debacle: Everything else. My parents' bed had the headboard right next to the adjoining room door and they could hear the people next door all night (who puts a headboard next to an adjoining door?). The elevator was dirty. The rooms were dated, and even the charm of being an old hotel could not excuse the poor lighting and layout in the rooms. And the price was awfully high - wish we had not trusted the Westin/Marriott name. I would never go back, and the whole experience has me soured on Marriott, which is usually our brand of choice.

Very friendly staff Meaghan and reception team went out of their way to make sure I got the right accommodation the parking is close by . The rooms are well appointed and the beds are extremely comfortable I asked for a room with double beds to fit my family.
