The Castle Hotel, Conwy, North Wales

My Wife and I booked The Castle for a 2 night stay to celebrate our 54th Wedding Anniversary as we had stayed close by for our honeymoon. We treated ourselves to a room upgrade. The room was fine. Reception was pleasant and helpful. We booked in for our evening meal. Thats when problems occured. In stead of being shown to a table in the Restaurant we were shown to a side room which was , basically a coffe bar. It was noisy and the ambiance was poor. Service before during and after the meal was poor and our food was lukewarm/cold. No one came to ask if all was ok. I was not prepared to carry or food to the restaurant to complain. The meal was prepaid. I complained to reception at the erliest opportunity and requested a table in the Restaurant for our second dinner. The Restaurant and service was fine but only re-inforced the negative experience of the previous evening. The stay was not all negative. The room was lovely, and Conwy was enjoyable. I would advise any one booking to insist a table in the restaurant and beware that on a Sunday they allow children to eat free which does change the ambiance. Sadly the experience spoiled our anniversary and it is unlikely I would stay there again. So buyer beware!!!

We stayed in the deluxe suite. It is stunning with beautiful views of the castle. Would stay for more than one night next time. Staff were wonderful and made our stay special

Staying at the Castle Hotel was like stepping back in time. You could feel the history bleeding out of the walls the moment you stepped inside the building The staff is friendly and efficient. It's an old hotel, so with that come some trade-off's, but the location is excellent, and the overall value was a "10".

Stayed here overnight when walking in the area. Room was beautiful but at the rear of the hotel so no much view. Staff were all very friendly and service was excellent. Will definitely stay again

An old hotel which could do with a little TLC, however parts of it felt quite a**ospheric. Staff were professional and welcoming and looked after us well. Our only criticism was the food at dinner in the restaurant. The starter had a large piece of gristle in the terrine, the main meal we chose were unavailable and as there are limited choices on the menu for someone with coeliac disease it isn’t the dining experience we would have loved.

I still think of my stay in this hotel, it really stands out. It's a beautiful old hotel with very comfortable rooms and lots of character. The breakfast is excellent. The only thing to watch out for is the narrow entrance to the carpark. I hope to be back!

My wife and I decided to spoil ourselves and book for a Sunday roast in the Castle Hotel bar. It was early evening and not busy but no-one welcomed us to our table or explained what the daily options were, instead menus were dropped on the table as the waiter walked past to another table. We ordered the roast lamb and the roast beef. First the positive points. The lamb was very good as were the selection of vegetables. The roast sirloin however was exceptionally tough and full of gristle as can be seen in the photo. No staff visited during our meal to enquire if everything was ok and following the meal when I informed the waiter that the beef was not enjoyable and pointed out the large amount of gristle on my plate, the waiter was most unhelpful. Instead he remarked that I had eaten everything else and that the sirloin depended on the cut! When offered, I confirmed that I would like to speak with the manager and waited for 15 minutes before I reluctantly left. The bar staff did remove the service charge and the price of a glass of wine after consulting with the manager who remained in his office! A premium priced evening spoiled.

We try and visit Castle Hotel at least twice a year, have been doing so for a number of years, I have never been disappointed. The Team go above and beyond to ensure you have the best experience. Rooms are beautiful we usually book a deluxe or superior double as we stay just 1 night, but you could comfortably spend longer as well appointed. Breakfast is always a treat and I can't wait to go back this summer!

Amazing stay and the team were very accommodating of my late arrival in the rain. Room was lovely and the heated towel racks were a blessing in disguise. Would stay again
