The Methuen Arms

I was very disappointed at this hotel. Being a gold VIP ******* member, I was expecting a better service from the woman in reception. She did not explain or said anything regarding the perks and the free breakfast that came with our stay. The room almost smell like an old man has been staying there for weeks. The toilet bowl had SKID MARKS in them!! You'd think they would have cleaned this. My pregnant wife did not enjoy the experience. This is by far the worst VIP ******* hotel we've stayed at. One thing that we really liked was the food in the restaurant and the breakfast. Hence, the 2 stars.

This is our local hotel and generally all very pleasant. Friendly staff,decent food etc. My comment today is about the ladies toilets. They really need a bit of TLC. Slightly smelly always,a bit grubby and sticky...just not up to the standard one might expect in a nice hotel.

We had a lovely Christmas stay at the Methuen Arms. For the first time, the whole family, immediate & extended, were able to be together for a hassle free Christmas lunch because the ‘Met’ took over. 😁 The staff were wonderful. We all loved it, so a big THANK YOU is called for. 👏

We only stayed for one night as we were attending a funeral nearby. The room was reasonably comfortable but being at the front and immediately opposite the chip shop meant it wasn't very private with the curtains open. The fridge was noisy as most hotel room fridges are and it was next to the bed. The bathroom had a good shower and large bath towels. The hotel could do with a bit of a brush up. The breakfast was not good and the Full English was particularly bad, but my husband did enjoy his poached eggs on toast. Dinner was enjoyable was was served promptly and with a smile. All the staff were very pleasant.

My parents lived in Corhsam for 50 years and I have visited often. I have seen this hotel go through many changes of ownership, and a few years ago it moved "up market". I contacted central reservations and was quoted a price for Bed and Breakfast that I thought was a bit steep, and told them it was more than online booking sites. I was then advised that if I downloaded the "loyalty app" for Butcombe Inns I could get a 20% discount, which brought the price below the online booking sites. I did this and booked. Even with this discount the room was not cheap, although it was a generous size and well equipped. One small gripe was the difficulty of finding the kettle (in the wardrobe with the iron of course) and once found the difficulty of plugging it in. The two sockets by the table were already used for the tv and the fridge/minibar (I hate minibars). The only other available sockets were by the bed but the bedside tables were filled with decorative lights with huge bases that almost filled the table. They may look pretty but they are completely non functional because they leave no room for anything else. Breakfast was excellent. My wife is gluten free and she said the gf bread was the best she had ever had. I asked for the recipe but was told the chef made it themselves. My wife would stay there again just for the gluten free bread, but for me the non discounted price of over £160 for B&B is too much for a return visit. The staff were uniformly helpful and very pleasant.

The Methuen kindly hosted our wedding reception recently and we can't begin to say how absolutely amazing it was and enjoyed by everyone. Everything from the venue to the staff to the food was perfection. A very heartfelt 'THANK YOU' goes out to all the incredible staff ( with a special thanks to Megan ) who were at all times polite proffessional helpful simply just lovely people. If anyone is looking for an amazing venue locally, we can highly recommend the Methuen Arms Hotel ... First Class ! ... Mr & Mrs Steve Yarworth x

I can only echo previous customer comments, nice room but food a disappointment, only average at best and not cheap. As others have said, breakfast is pre cooked and arrived very dry. When we arrived for breakfast, there was no table to sit at, we had to ask for orange juice and the tea was very weak. Staff very helpful Wouldn’t stay again
