We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast deal and were located in the separate building next to the main house. The room was beautifully furnished and decorated to a high standard. The art on the wall was a bit over whelming but interesting. The problem was that the lift was indecisive as to where it would stop and took some adjusting up and down and also, the floors were labelled in the American way, with the ground floor classed as floor 1, so there was some confusion locating floor 3 (you had to press the number 2) trivial but annoying. However, the main thing was that there were no fire instructions in the room and no 'running man' to indicate where to go to evacuate in case of fire. These were available on exiting the building at the main entrance, not useful if the fire was upstairs. In addition, the door handle to our room needed attention as it kept falling apart and would not operate the latch, leaving us stuck in the room, again not ideal if there was an emergency. We were advised that the building was being renovated and this was why the signs were absent. The staff were very friendly but the service in the restaurant was very slow for some reason and the food, apart from the chips, average. When we went to pay and check out, we realised that the bill was incorrect, including items we did not have and not including the bottle of wine that we did have. With some difficulty we tried explain the errors and , being honest, we owned up to the bottle of wine. The receptionist was trying her best but we ended up paying for the bottle of wine and an item we did not have but by that time we just accepted it, no doubt to the relief of the queue behind us. We dont like to be negative and despite the above we did enjoy the stay itself . The main house was very interesting, with lots of art and different cosy rooms. We would Atay again, in the main house but probably eat elsewhere.

While the food at The Rudloe Nr. Bath is commendable, both for breakfast and dinner, the rest of the experience leaves much to be desired. This establishment, which was likely once a stunning hotel, now shows clear signs of wear and tear. The property appears tired and dilapidated, with a pervasive sense of neglect. The garden, which seemingly once supported the restaurant, is now in a state of extreme disrepair. It is overgrown and poorly maintained, making parts of it quite hazardous. This level of neglect continues indoors, where the overall decrepitude is evident. Certain areas pose significant health and safety risks, with cracked and broken glass and items precariously falling off the walls. It is disappointing to see a place with such potential fall into such a neglected and deteriorated state. A thorough renovation and proper maintenance could restore The Rudloe Nr. Bath to its former glory, making it a truly remarkable destination once again.

If I had read the reviews before booking I would most certainly have not done so.however I have to ask myself did those that left such negative reviews actually stay at the same hotel as my wife and myself ?. Right from the moment of arrival and being directed to a parking space we were greeted by welcoming hotel staff who could not do more than we asked of them, they all seemed to enjoy working at the establishment and looking after their guests, absolutely no issues with the staff at all . The hotel itself is as it says in its website is a ''quirky'' place to stay and is obviously the owners way of conveying his thoughts in a public way to all who visit, personally I found Mr Whites taste of style used in the decor of the premises absolutely fascinating, every day brought new surprises. Food was delicious, presented well and in my opinion good value for the money that we paid, much has been said about ''extras' on the main menu and the price of drinks charged, to this I can only say these items and drinks prices are all listed on the web site for everyone that wishes to peruse the menus listed there and make there own choices as too indulge in them or not before booking, for myself I have paid much more for 'extras' in far less salubrious restaurants than at the Rudlowe. Overall both my wife and myself have no complaints about any of the staff the accomodation, food or the general appearance of the hotel or its accomodation. Its certainly our intention too return for another visit and soon .

Total utter rip-off Over priced cheep poor quality food Nearly £14 a pint, £5 per glass of juice Only used to fund already rich people's lavish live style at our expense. Anyone who says this place is value for money is lying. MPW please reply.

Booked to stay at the Rudloe with friends to celebrate birthdays and thought we were in for a treat and some excellent food. How wrong were we ! Some of the staff were rude and unaccommodating, the rooms were very dark and dim, full of stuffed animals, and not overly clean, the food wasn’t great (desert tasted very eggy, and when we told the server, he just said that he’d pass that on to the kitchen ! No apology and we weren’t offered an alternative!), the drinks were expensive and there seemed to be a supplement for everything ! We weren’t once asked if everything was ok throughout of our stay. I wouldn’t recommend staying here and I won’t be returning. It’s nicely located for Bath, but apart from that, it was disappointing.

Absolutely disappointed. Was really looking forward to this get away with friends but we were disgusted but the cold staff not treating us on arrival .When eating our mains it once did anyone ask if everything was ok. Breakfast I said I don’t drink tea and coffee and was I able to have a juice or hot chocolate and they turned round and said it woukd be a supplement! We already paid over £220 for the stay ! On arrival I mentioned it was my husbands 50 th and the young girl at check in didn’t even wish a happy birthday! On check out we paid for the extras and she didn’t even asked if we had a good stay! We will not be returning and I wouldn’t recommend it at all!

Expected quality food as the venue has a celebrated chef as its owner. The food was average and the staff not very friendly, we didn't bother with the bar after dinner as the experience we had made us feel uncomfortable. The room was well furnished and quirky - but we couldn't open the windows or French doors which made the room really stuffy and hot while trying to sleep - no air conditioning. Drinks were very expensive and the set menu for dinner had to be supported by supplements as did the breakfast. It was like you had a stay at a good price and the hotel was trying to recoup the costs lost through supplement charges on the menus. Won't be staying again - think it was the worst experience for interaction with hotel staff - where the staff should be making sure your experience is the best they can possibly deliver - its as though they didn't want to be there.

Didn't even get to stay here, they didn't honour the ******* booking. I've since read other reviews stating the same or similar going back over a year. Booked through *******, had several confirmation emails, reminders etc. Arrived after a 4 hour journey on a hot day expecting a relaxing weekend which was planned 9 months ago. Hotel was hard to find as no sign on the road entrance then the sign on the building itself said 'House in the woods' Receptionist was chatting to another member of staff (not about work) and begrudgingly looked up but didn't say anything, we had to ask if it was the rudloe arms to which we had a monosyllabic 'yes' Was asked my name for the booking, but she couldn't find it, then was asked if that was my name...I showed her the ******* confirmation email but she said 'there is no record of any booking on the system for you, and the hotel is full so unfortunately we can't check you in' She then said she could see the ******* booking but not the hotel booking (I don't understand that!) She repeatedly said 'We dont have your booking, the hotel is full, there nothing we can do'. No offer of a drink in the bar whilst we try and find another hotel, she was completely unsympathetic and uninterested. So we didn't even stay here but given the staffs rudeness, I'm glad we didn't. Currently staying in the Kings Arms in Melksham, and the staff, facilities, food and drink are all very good!
